Best of Las Vegas 2008 : Eat & Drink : Best Bakery

Reader Pick
FREED'S BAKERY OF LAS VEGAS
4780 S. Eastern Ave., 9555 S. Eastern Ave.

Freed's has been the readers' choice in this category for about as long as there has been a Best of Las Vegas, not only because of the old-time goodness of its cakes and pastries — such as the fruitcake at Christmastime that's actually good — but also because the bakery has been canny enough to keep up with the times. The specialty now is wedding cakes, but if you'd like a Mango Cheesecake Tower of Cupcakes or a purse-shaped cake, this is the place for you (and a new second location makes Freed's easier to reach for folks in Henderson). Great Buns finishes a distant second.

Staff Pick
ALBINA'S ITALIAN-AMERICAN BAKERY
3035 E. Tropicana Blvd.

We like traditional, too, but in an Old Country kind of way, which is where Albina's comes in. Sure, we like the crisp-crusted breads, but what we really go there for is pastries such as cannoli and sfogliatelle, and even non-Italian pastries such as baba au rhum, napoleons and eclairs. If only they could make them the same way they do now, but without the calories.

They are very creative with the types of cake and frostings. They will also do cakes and cupcakes with any design you want for a very resonable price. They are the best in town.

Karen wrote on February 03, 2009 04:17 PM: RETRO BAKERY is the best bakery bar none...while it is a bit far from down town it is well worth any drive...the family run bakery is a little gem...kari and brian can bring a smile to anyone's face before you even get to sample the utterly moist and tastefilled cupcakes...and once you have had a taste you will be a fan forever like i am

Mrs Williams Diabetic Delights has been at 3466 S. Decatur for almost 18 years now, and gets great reviews at other web sites for sugar free Eclairs, Cream Puffs, Pies, Cakes, and Birthday cakes, of course they have alot more sugar free delights as sugar free is all we do,including a full line of sugar free chocolates, and candies.
