Best of Las Vegas 2008 : Eat & Drink : Best Ice Cream

Reader Pick
COLD STONE CREAMERY
Multiple locations

Readers sure do love Cold Stone Creamery, giving them an overwhelming number of votes. The reason? We suspect the wide variety of pick-it-and-they'll-mix-it ingredients, and the fun of it all being mixed on the cold stone. With 11 million possibilities, we figure every reader can find one that's right for him or her. Baskin-Robbins finishes a distant second.

Staff Pick
LUV IT FROZEN CUSTARD
505 E. Oakey Blvd.

We're kind of into those cult favorites ourselves, and around the office, introducing the new person in town to Luv It has been a long-standing tradition. It may be in kind of an interesting location, just off Las Vegas Boulevard on Oakey, but that's just part of the appeal. Where else can you strike up a conversation with a stripper from the Olympic Garden while waiting in line?

Its addicting, and I can't stop myself from going everyday. They just opened a few weeks ago but not a lot of people know about it yet, but i'm sure the word is going to get out, and the small lines now are going to get gigantic. They cut fresh strawberries, mangos, kiwis, blueberries and raspberries everyday and pack it on. its awesome.

The first is Tutti Gelatti in the Montelago village at Lake Las Vegas. Nothing better than sitting outside with a cup, staring at the lake and watching the ducks. During the summer months they have live jazz in the park on certain nights.

The second is the little Gelatto booth inside the Whole Foods grocery store in The District. They rotate the flavors on a regular basis and your guaranteed to find one you like, with free samples. You can get a cup and take a stroll to the new Carousel that just opened on the east side of the District.

And finally, Sheridan's Frozen Custard on South Eastern, just south of St. Rose Parkway has the absolute best frozen concoctions in town. Try one of their "concretes". Everything that icecream should be; extra creamy and very rich. Really good stuff!

I am soooo happy that they are still around and still owned by the same family, I hope they never tire of making awesome custard, I hope my children get to pass it on to their kids!!!My Favorite is the Western Sundae.

Mrs. H wrote on April 21, 2008 07:50 PM: Nope, sorry, the best 'ice cream' is actually gelato at CAFE GELATO in Boca Park (Charleston & Rampart). There are over thirty flavors daily and new flavors are transitioned through at a nice pace. I'm not going to tell you my favorite flavor because I want to make sure they have it when I get there!

Mary wrote on March 25, 2008 04:54 PM: I've been going to Luv-It Frozen Custard since I was a little girl. Now I take my kids there. It is still the BEST ICE CREAM in town. It's no wonder they keep winning all the awards in town year after year. This year they are celebrating 35 YEARS IN BUSINESS! Only the strong survive! My favorite is the BANANA FUDGE KRUMBLE: Hot Fudge, Bananas, and Oreo's! YUM!
