BRENDEN THEATRES AT THE PALMS
4321 W. Flamingo Road
It's always fun to see some stars without having to, you know, get kicked in the head by a mule or clubbed in the face with a tire iron. And what's cool about the Brenden Theatres at the Palms is that you have almost as good a chance of seeing celebrities right outside the place on the casino floor as you do on one of its many screens. An increasingly high profile destination for movie premieres with CineVegas continuing to grow as a hot commodity on the festival circuit, this is the kind of joint where you may be able to actually hobnob with some of the Hollywood bigwigs you pay to see. Don't be shy, go up and say "Hi" to Dennis Hopper. Be sure to tell him how awesome he was in "Space Truckers." Rave Motion Pictures pretends like it's yawning and then slyly puts its arm around your shoulders in second place.

RAVE MOTION PICTURES
Town Square, 6587 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Seeing as how most movie theaters are in casinos in this town, it can be a bit of a drag when you're taking the youngsters to see "Spy Kids 6: Zombie Holocaust" and you have to pass acres of drunks, gamblers, drunk gamblers and chain-smoking octogenarians glued to the video poker machines like wrinkly Velcro. And so what makes Rave Motion Pictures at Town Square so welcoming is the fact that it's far from any slot machines or cocktail waitresses bursting from their barely-there outfits like geysers of flesh. The theaters are magnificent, plush and all digital, with big, comfy seats and a whopping 18 screens. And it's all surrounded by an outdoor shopping center, so you can catch a breath of fresh air outside a theater that provides much the same.

Lani Misalucha:
Sure, your massive HDTV set with the speakers blasting out your living room walls is a semi-movie theater experience. But for the whole shebang -- you know, tons of prefeature trailers, elaborate Coke commercials, the please-silence-your-cell-phones-now message and the fellow moviegoers who pay no heed to the previous message -- there's a fairly new choice that gets Lani Misalucha's vote.
I love to go to the Town Square, says the Society of Seven performer. "I don't have to go inside a casino, and around it are some really good stores and restaurants and some really nice places to walk around."
The attraction's understandable: The 18-screen, stadium-seating facility, which opened in November at the south end of the Strip, features digital projection and roomy theaters in an open-air, Main Street USA-style setting.
I go there about twice a month to see a movie, Misalucha says.
And we've no doubt that she turns off her cell phone.
