STATION CASINOS
Multiple locations
The networked power of Station’s fall classic makes it a perennial winner, because readers are willing to trade the increased number of competitors for the weekly chance to win a new car or $10,000 in cash. At the end of the season, there’s the chance to move into a new house, one we hope they did not get in a foreclosure sale. The Las Vegas Hilton is second.

LUCKY’S SPORTS BOOK
Multiple locations
The little company based at the Plaza, Terrible’s and other locations throughout Nevada tried an innovative twist on the established (Station Casinos) formula last fall. It was a free shot, but you had to get a perfect ticket picking all winners — no losers covering a spread — to bag a weekly prize of $6,000. Sounds hard, and it was. But the pool carried over each time no one had a perfect week, building excitement like a lottery until someone hit at $48,000. Not necessarily better than the buy-in contests, but different, free and fun.
