My NASCAR fashion statement

Welcome to Las Vegas NASCAR Weekend 2010.

I’ll start out today wearing a bowtie at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to make amends for to a mistake I made in a story earlier this week.

My brain lost a cylinder (another one) while writing a story for Tuesday’s Las Vegas Review-Journal that also is posted here at lvrj.com.

Thanks to about a dozen readers it was noted that I put Ryan Newman in a Stewart-Haas Racing No. 39 TOYOTA CAMRY.

Blasphemy.

Newman drives a CHEVROLET. I knew that. I really did.

So I vowed issue a public apology by wearing a bowtie today. You know a bowtie is the nickname for Chevy because it kind of looks like its emblem that’s been used since 1913 when I was in the fifth grade.

I disdain ties of any kind because my neck is claustrophobic.

Thanks to my new BFF (Best Forecaster Forever) Nathan Tannenbaum, I can sport the new look. Nate the Great is a bowtie aficionado so he let me borrow one and tied it for me. Nate is the anchor for RJtv here at lvrj.com and the most famous weatherperson in Las Vegas.

So here’s the new me.

Note to Mrs. Tannenbaum: Do not be alarmed. This is not what your husband will look like in 20 years.

Hauler parade on the Strip

About 70 NASCAR haulers paraded down the Strip (Las Vegas Boulevard) Thursday evening. It started at 6:30 and covered about few miles of one of the country’s most famous piece of pavement.

It was very impressive unless you were stuck on one of the side streets that were closed for several minutes.
