“There are many Senators whom I hold in a certain respect and would not think of declining to meet socially, if I believed it was the will of God. We have lately sent a United States Senator to the penitentiary, but I am quite well aware that of those who have escaped this promotion there are several who are in some regards guiltless of crime — not guiltless of all crimes, for that cannot be said of any United States Senator, I think, but guiltless of some kinds of crime.”
— Mark Twain in “Eruption”
Nevada newspaper folks have always had a certain affection for our elected delegates in Washington. We’ve dined with them, invited them to editorial boards, endorsed them on occasion when they were running for re-election. But we’ve never really been awed by them.
From the comments appended to R-J Publisher Sherman Frederick’s column today — there were more than 1,000 by mid-morning, thanks to a link posted on the Drudge Report, I suspect — I’d say that feeling is rather widely shared, not just in Nevada but all over the nation.
I thought his remark at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon a bit revealing. I’m not sure whether it is our polling or our editorials that he’d rather do without.
Don't you just love it when these arrogant jokers take you on? What a laugh!
And then, his comment about your going out of business. Even if he could make it happen, doesn't the knucklehead know how many families (and children) would suffer? Probably doesn't care.
Why the devil does he get sent back over and over to Washington?
Cheers,
Randy Sanders
The Democrats can take heart in the fact that, even though Harry will be the second Senate majority leader to be kicked out of office, like Tom Dashle before him he may be given a second life by the Chicago mob in DC. Who knows, he may become another czar where he doesn't have to answer to the people anymore.
That half million in tax money could be better spent here in Nevada than being sent as profits to R-J owners out of state.
I guess higher taxes are OK at the R-J if they are collecting the cash.
I post and email Sherm, hoping the RJ fails, at least once or twice a month.
Why? Because it has become a lousy newspaper with only one or two reporters and a geriatric bunch of kooks writing the editorials.
So YAY Internet, goodbye Sherm! And take the angry man in the cowboy hat with yas!
You had senator HR there with you on the radio and you couldn’t say anything about him in his face, per say. You backed down like a little girl. Harry attacked you on the radio, in your face and you did nothing! I wonder why, is it because you're full of it?
And by the way, you keep saying "the biggest newspaper in Nevada"... the biggest never means the best nor the smarter... it only means you got the money and I do hope the newspaper goes out of business because is a edited by a pathetic individual like you! Get that hat off and write actual and true news, not your personal and pathetic opinions.
Who are you going to send to the Senate? If anyone thinks there’s a better person to do the job then grab a gun and shot your self in the head!
And for those who dare to listen to anything that you say, I feel sorry for them. Blind leading the blind!
I really doubt you will post this, why? Because is the Review Journal!
Who are you going to send to the senate in Harry Reid's place? How about a broken toggle switch? It's just as smart, would do less harm trying to feather its own nest and wouldn't lie to you. That's a great improvement over what we have now.
It goes without saying that Mr. Frederick, the mysterious man in the cowboy hat and the RJ will outlast the hot winds that add their comments here, including me.
