Online Guy
Al Gibes
Al Gibes has been writing the weekly Online Guy column since May 1998. He's seen the world move from a majority of non-computer users to more than 60 percent of U.S. users having high-speed connections in their homes. He began his journalism career as a reporter/photographer in Roswell, NM, then moved to Los Alamos, NM and Grand Junction, CO as chief photographer at each newspaper. He joined the R-J staff in 1994 as a photo editor, moving to the online world at the inception of the reviewjournal.com site in 1997. He'll blog about all things related to the Internet, bandwidth, new technology and anything related to the digital world. He won't be blogging about how to fix a bad C drive, adding graphics cards to a PC or what's the best computer to buy -- unless that discussion pits Apple vs. the rest of the PC world. He's a Mac guy all the way.

Slider bribery

Cast a vote, eat a burger. It's that easy.

The folks at the Food Network are asking viewers to vote for their favorite food truck and a Las Vegas entrant is offering its fans a free burger for their loyalty. Don't worry, it's all on the up-and-up, as fans of food trucks across the country are rallying diners to promote their favorite meal on wheels.

Slidin Thru, a food truck that dishes up miniature gourmet burgers for lunch and dinner at locations across the Las Vegas Valley is so far in fourth place out of 271 trucks entered in the contest.

To vote, send the text message "FT64" to 66789. To get your free slider, bring your phone to the Slidin Thru window and show proof that you voted in the contest.

A peek at @SliderTruck on Twitter earlier today

The truck with the most votes will win $10,000 and get a chance to appear on season two of “The Great Food Truck Race” on the Food Network.

You can also vote up to 10 times daily on the Web at:
http://foodtrucks.teamdigital.com/index.php

A photo and link to vote for Slidin Thru should be on the leader board on the right side of the page. Click on the link to Slidin Thru, then cast your ballot. You'll be prompted with an option to cast your nine remaining ballots for Slidin Thru. Return tomorrow and do the same thing.

By the way, anyone from Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit or Columbus, Ohio, knows the only "real" sliders are from White Castle. No, they don't have a truck in this race.
