Gibbons asks regents for someone new to work with

In the wake of a scathing attack on his leadership by university system Chancellor Jim Rogers over the weekend, Gov. Jim Gibbons is asking the Board of Regents to give him someone other than Rogers to deal with.

In a letter and press release just sent, Gibbons asks the regents to appoint a "liaison" to work with his office, "because Chancellor Rogers has focused all of his energy on personal attacks."

Rogers and Gibbons have made no secret of their escalating disdain for one another. Some speculated that the huge cuts Gibbons proposed to the higher education budget might be personal retaliation against Rogers.

Rogers is a schmuck and has an overinflated opinion of himself and his importance.

I would say Rogers is a very important person-owning a local TV station is pretty important, especially for a Govenor who might want to get re-elected.
And if Rogers is a schmuck then Gibbons is a........(please fill in your own opinion)!

mike and JAC,

You both have it wrong. It is simply a clash between narcissists. On one side you have the Top Gun bravado of a fighter pilot; the other, the hubris gained by unconscionable wealth.

The possibilty for any civil discourse between the two is limited by their typology. Both are convinced they are right. Neither will budge.

An honest examination of their separate histories will prove that assertion.

I think I'll start a television station.

Oh, wait, the government would put me in jail if I did that.

My guess is that it could be very difficult to work with or reach a compromise with both Gibbons and Rogers. My hunch is that both are a bit too full of themselves and lack a high degree of humility. However, it is difficult to argue with Rogers overwhelmingly generous nature toward the people of Nevada. He does more than talk the talk. Gibbons? Not so sure. I would definitely pick Rogers for governor over Gov. Embarrassment.
