Krolicki: 'I can beat Sen. Reid'

Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki made his strongest statements to date about a possible challenge to U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., but stopped short of declaring himself a candidate.

Krolicki said the fact he won Clark County and "every precinct" in Washoe County during the 2006 election for lieutentant governor shows he is a strong statewide candidate, despite that Reid has raised more than $15 million and is expected to raise $10 million more to hold his seat.

"I believe I can beat Sen. Reid," Krolicki said. "We need someone who can win."

Krolicki, a Republican, says defeating what he called an "absurd political prosecution" by Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto, a Democrat, made him stronger.

"I'm a proven survivor of the most brutal partisan attack possible," said Krolicki of criminal charges related to a college savings fund program he oversaw.

No money was unaccounted for and the case was thrown out of court in December.

Krolicki has acknowledged for weeks he is considering a challenge to Reid, despite a crowded field of Republicans already campaigning that includes Las Vegas businessman Danny Tarkanian, casino owner and former Nevada GOP chairwoman Sue Lowden, conservative ideologue Sharron Angle and investment banker John Chachas.

"People are tired of the dark side of politics. I'm going to talk about issues," Krolicki said while discussing the prosecution and early negative campaigning in the Republican primary. "The sniping I currently see between some of the candidates is unappealing and disappointing."

He says he will make a decision within a few weeks when he has a better idea of potential financial, endorsement and staffing situations.

Careful Brian. Running for Lt. Governor is like running for Prom King - it doesn't matter.

If you want to gloat, then enter the race and see how you do in the primaries. You can't beat Reid unless you beat your Republican opponents.

Stating that you can beat Reid and then losing the primary will brand you as a loser. You can then forget about other political offices.

Baby steps first. Right now your opponents are Republicans. Concentrate on them first.

Before we poo-poo Krolicki, let's remember. He is a Republican, elected to statewide office, and has disgraced that very office. Right away that means he's the real deal, since it's a req that you're either in trouble with the law or your wife to hold statewide office as a Republican in Nevada.

Anybody with a pulse has a shot at beating Reid. Can you beat Lowden?

Winning the race to become Lt. Governor does not qualify you to be a Senator. Everyone knows the Lt. Governor position in Nevada is a joke.

While you're not on the dark side of politics YET, let's keep it that way by not being a candidate for Dirty Harry's seat in the Senate. The Republicans have capable, not-even-shady candidates who can fill the bill. Stay out for the sake of the Party!!!!!!

Part of Brian's job as Lt Governor is to help promote Nevada and garner business opportunities for our State. How has Brian done? We are in the toilet. No meaningful diversification. No new industries enticed to come in from California and elsewhere. Grade F. This time if you run you will have to do it on your own dime not at the taxpayers expense. How will you do that when the major Republican donors signed on to Reid about 8 months ago? My money is on Reid. Snow White and the Seven, eight nine and counting dwarves will feed on themselves.

I will vote in the primary. Amodei has my vote now and if not him Tarkanian. If Brian enters the race, he has my vote. Brian, if you can raise the money, go for it.
