Republicans vying to challenge Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., sent statements condemning Reid's reported statements about President Barack Obama.
The statements, widely reported, were about Obama's skin tone and dialect.
Candidate Sue Lowden said this: "The same pattern of bad judgement in Harry Reid's remarks also clouds his ability to solve real problems for Nevadans — such as record unemployment, home foreclosures and access to affordable health care. There has never been a more important time for Nevada voters to give Harry Reid a job evaluation than now."
Candidate Sharron Angle said: “Harry Reid’s remarks are offensive to all Americans. I am disgusted, though not surprised that Reid thinks like this. The idea that he would strategize a presidential race based on skin color and speech pattern only proves that he is out of touch. Apparently, Reid decides that all Americans are not created equal; deciding one skin color over another color for the basis of being qualified to win or not goes against everything that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. hoped for, that one day his own children would ‘live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.' ”
Yvette Williams of the Clark County Democratic Black Caucus said the fact Reid supported Obama for President "kind of proves he is not a racist. I think maybe that should be the story."
