As promised, the Tea Party Express sent out an ad Thursday, denouncing Scott Ashjian as a "fraud" and urging Nevadans not to vote for him.
The Las Vegas businessman is running for U.S. Sen. Harry Reid's seat under the "Tea Party of Nevada" banner, but members of the movement in the state and nationwide have accused the former Republican of trying to hijack their political label to win support.
The 30-second video ad's main message is this: "We at the Tea Party Express have a message for Scott Ashjian who has been trying to pretend he’s involved in the Tea Party movement - get lost."
"We think you're a fraud who’s trying to split the vote and help re-elect Harry Reid," continues to ad, which ressembles a newscast. "We ask the voters of Nevada to reject your candidacy."
The Tea Party Express group, which is organizing a "Showdown in Searchlight" rally on Saturday in the Democratic Senate majority leader's hometown, said it is releasing the ad on YouTube and on its Facebook site and will decide later whether and when to run the message on radio and television across the state.
