Don't visit Las Vegas, Mr. President I-Can-Do-No-Wrong

Sen. Harry Reid called President Barack Obama today to protest his use of Las Vegas in a negative way.

Good for Harry, save for one thing -- his call did no good.

The president wrote back this: "I hope you know that during my Town Hall today, I wasn’t saying anything negative about Las Vegas. I was making the simple point that families use vacation dollars, not college tuition money, to have fun. There is no place better to have fun than Vegas, one of our country’s great destinations. I have always enjoyed my visits, look forward to visiting in a few weeks, and hope folks will visit in record numbers this year."

What kind of stupid does he think Nevadans are?

No apology ... just this strange note. I hope Harry writes him back an absolutely scathing letter. I'd start out like this:

"Dear Mr. President,

"In light of your failure to understand how much damage you have done to the Nevada economy, it would be best if you cancel your upcoming visit to Las Vegas. If you don't, don't expect any public official to stand with you on any stage here -- and that starts with me!"

Think Harry's got the eggs for that? I hope so because, gawd, Las Vegas could use a little backbone out of our so-called most powerful politician ever.

This city is ground zero for the recession and Washington has not been very friendly lately. Maybe a full-on, four-letter-word note to Mr. I-Can-Do-No-Wrong President will jerk him back to the reality of a city at 13% unemployment.

This is ridiculous ... yet I would expect nothing less from the worst "major" news paper in the Western US. This is a non issue ... any sane intelligent person would put this all in context and not even bat an eye. Its a waste of time, there are many more important and pressing matters to be concerned with. Mr. Fredricks has been leading the preposterous editorial team with its insane and out of touch libertarian views for years. I wouldn't expect anything different. The RJ led Nevada off a cliff long, long ago when it gave the politicians a free pass to sell the state down the river to greedy developers. One can only hope that Las Vegas will finally die, dry up and blow away ... just another western ghost town. So long and thanks for the fish ...

"What kind of stupid does he think Nevadans are?"

Nevada is the largest trailer park in the world, populated primarily with stupid people. The RJ does a great job of catering to that .... congratulations.

Don't count on Harry. After being summarily dismissed by Dr. Utopia, what's poor Harry gonna do? Of course Harry could have pointed out that Foxwoods or even Atlantic City were nearer to his speech and could have equally made his point. But why waste an opportunity to rub Harry's nose in it?

Kinda re-enforces what Dina said the other day, doesn't it?

Earth to Shelley! Paging Shelley!

NEVADA JACK! HOW ARE YOU? WHERE YOU BEEN?

WHEN DID THEY LET YOU OUT? YOU STILL ON THE MEDS?

Harry Reid does not have a set or he would have left that POS Obama high and dry a long time ago.

I guess this shows that political correctness isn't just for liberals anymore.

I was going to add my sarcastic note. But then I read a few of the comments. Seems Obama supporters, Harry Reid's friends, have a lote to say about Las Vegas, its inhabitants and their wishes for our future. I get it now. These are the types of people in charge in Washington. I hope that changes and soon. Starting with Harry Reid.

Getting advice from the President on living within my means is like getting lectured by Tiger Woods about fidelity in marraige. Mr. Obama, try practicing what you preach before you try to advise others.

The President said that families trying to tighten their belts should not spend education funds on expensive Vegas vacations.

Mr. Frederick disagrees.

It reminds me of the attitude conservatives have towards fiscal policy in general.

Where is the outrage for the boat manufacturers? When do they get the attention? (You know, that first part of his comment?)

What NObama is saying to Reid is this: "Harry, remember those nasty racial slurs you made during the campaign? If you think I'll say anything nice to help you, you're nuts. You will lose the next election, so I'm rid of you for good. Have a nice day".

Why do you insist on perverting everything the Democrats say or do Mr. Frederick?

I notice you didn't provide a full quote. This is just an obvious attempt to misinterpret and misinform.

Why do you continue to negatively exaggerate this President's words and deeds.

I mean, I realize this guy is performing below par, but after tolerating the last few Presidents, this guy's potential damage to the country is minuscule.

This campaign to use distorted facts, false information and exaggerated claims to frighten people is shameful!

What do you take Nevadans for, ignorant low-life who will believe anything?

I called Reid's office this morning after reading that he said republican leaders were endangering national security by slowing down his and Obama's choices for jobs such as TSA chief. I told his rep that in California at least Feinstein didn't disappoint on some national security issues and I was still waiting for ONE issue Harry and I could agree upon. Guess I'll have to wait until next January--his new career.

You better wake up, Blackvegas, cause a real bad storm is coming, and his name is unsustainable debt. Your old buddy, the hopey - changey guy, is pouring high octane on the fire. And Harry, errand boy and whipping post for the great one, Reid is just passing him another bucket.

We're Americans first, right brother?

Sen. Reid needs to stand up for Las Vegas, once and for all. Obama thinks that his apology is a cure-all for his negative statements on Las Vegas. Do I feel that his heart is not in Las Vegas? I hope he does not hate Las VegaS?

Typical of this FOX-like right wing rag: Intentionally distorted what the president said. What part of, "I wasn’t saying anything negative about Las Vegas," did you not understand? Did you think we couldn’t figure out the point he was trying to make with his original statement?

I know you twisted your interpretation for your right-wing Ditto Heads; they're easy to confuse and lead; it's evident by the above blabbering. But there is no way you could convince intelligent people that his statement was an attempt to disparage Las Vegas. We know the point he was trying to make; and we know what you tried twisting it into. Shame on you. You're still spending away what little trust your paper still has.

For you poor, mislead, Ditto Heads that didn't understand what your president was saying, and believed what Mr. Frederick (and Rush Limbaugh) tried convincing you; it wasn't talking about Las Vegas; he was explaining that you don't waste money when you have important things to spend it on.

Next time try reading the statement for yourself.

Why is it that the people who are Obama supporters are so blind that they can't see the Messiah can so or do anything wrong? Open up your eyes and ears people and see what his true motives are. Obviously, he has a true hate for America.

Mr President could and should have just as easily used the Hamptons, Boston, and DisneyLand as the target of his examples of profligate tourist spending. It's interesting, though, to see the natives wish for the city to become a "real" city and not just life support for the Strip only to have Washington turn its back on funding for that to happen. Was THIS the "change" we voted for?
Written by: Berron_Arcobaleno on Wednesday, Feb. 03, 2010 at 8:10 AM -- Report abuse
Once again, most Obama defenders are blind and way out of touch.

The point and reason of this outrage is Obama should leave a severely deppressed city and state out of any unnecessary specific examples that portray it in a negative or condeming light. Why couldn't he have just said casino, for ****'s sake. But noooooo, he had to say "don't go to Vegas" when saving for college(which is essentially every parent or young person). Surely he knew better....his handelers knew better?

And I suspect Obama did know better.... but he couldn't help himself or his massive ego.

In short, "your not helping 'em Obama, your hurtin' em."

And to think that he has 3 years left on his term to screw up this country.

Please Mr. President come to visit Vegas. Stay a while, maybe several weeks. Please be seen with each of the Democratic candidates and voice your support for them. It's the best thing that can happen to the Nevada Republican Party's chances in November 2010.

I think John Smith got it right in his column when he related Harry's remarks to this being an election year.

Too late, Harry. Some might call you Senator Reid, but everybody knows you are Obama's "Senator Lapdog."

Personally, I was glad to hear Obama shoot off his big mouth. Every time he does, Harry's percentage points drop a little more.

Worst president? He stopped a Depression and is pulling us out of a recession; the GDP is up, as is the stock market. He's actually ahead of schedule. His over budget is $1.6 trillion; just a little above Bush's $1.3 trillion. And Obama's has to take into consideration the jobs lost (lost of tax income) because of Bush's recession.

As for the worst president; the one (and his party) we just kicked out started a war with another country by error; killing thousands of our military men. He and his party ran up much of our $12 trillion debt.

It might be fun to parrot Rush Limbaugh; FOX and the RJ; but it's simply is not true and you Can't show where it is.

Oh the horror...!!!! The insult !!!!! The scorn !!! Sin City, rise up ... defend yourself !!!....The President of the United States says its not a good idea to spend the money your saving for your education, on sin in Sin City....!!!!
If I were the President I wouldn't even bother visiting this arm pit of a city. He doesn't need it. He could still use Harry, but he doesn't need Las Vegas.
I'm sure he's very aware of the Las Vegas Rag Journal and it's idiot publisher, so he knows that's a worthless waste of his time. I'ed bypass this place and say anything I damn well wanted to say about it.
As far as the drunk who happens to be the mayor of this city saying he's going to give the president "the boot". That scumbag would probably fall on his ass if he tried to give the boot to anybody..
Frederics, you would have been
a star in Hitler or Stalin's propaganda department. What a sorry excuse you are for the rights of the first amendment and freedom of the press.

Myabe it's time that Las Vegas devirsified its economic base from all gambling to some meaningful industry. Then, whiney, slimey Mayor Goodman and obstructionist publishers like Fredrick wouldn't have worry so much about every remark that is made about wasteful spending on gambling. Everytime I visit Las Vegas I'm amazed at all the money that is being spent on gambling during this recession.

Oh the horror !!!! The insult !!! The disrespect !!! How could he ?? The President of the United States say's people should not spend their education money on sin in Sin City !!!!

Let's get real...99% of the population of this country living outside of Clark County Nevada would agree....
If I was the President I wouldn't even blink an eye at the reaction from Sherman Frederick and his Las Vegas Rag Journal....I would expect it !!!

And as far as the drunk the city calls a mayor, who cares what he thinks....he's an embarrassment everytime he opens his mouth...

Obama needs Harry and thats his only reason for coming to Vegas...to try and give Harry a boost....He doesn't need Las Vegas and he for sure doesn't need the Frederick rag....

What he said makes sense and anyone with half a brain knows it.
