Ensign trouble deepens

Two weeks ago readers of the Complete Las Vegan will have noted this prescient sentence in a Sunday column:

"Watching Republicans and Democrats on tee-vee talk health care with the president last week reminded me of how much national recognition Sen. John Ensign's affair cost him and Nevada. John would have swung a big bat at that table. Instead, he's relegated to the shadows, a disgraced senator who doesn't matter much.

"Assuming there's not a legal shoe to drop in the form of an indictment for the way he stupidly handled the exit of his lover's husband from his staff (and I don't make that assumption, by the way), I'm not sure where John goes from here? ... "

Now comes the NYT's piece this evening in which the lede reads: "WASHINGTON — Previously undisclosed e-mail messages turned over to the F.B.I. and Senate ethics investigators provide new evidence about Senator John Ensign’s efforts to steer lobbying work to the embittered husband of his former mistress and could deepen his legal and political troubles."

Deepen his trouble? No kidding.

So when are you going to start criticizing and questioning this guy on a regular basis instead of singing his praises or ignoring him for 99 days out of every 100.You know, journalism.

Where is your demand that Senator Ensign resign?

Where is your admission that losing Senator Reid (Senate Leader) will be a larger loss of power for Nevada?

Where is the fair and balanced? Or is this all an admission that your newspaper equates to FOX for being a right wing voice for the Republican party?

Come on guys, we all know that Sherm ain't got no time to tell the truth about any republican who got caught with his pants down, standing on the sidelines doing absolutely nothing for the state except taking up space (and taxpayer dollars), and using his public office for the good of himself only; he's got an election to win.

Serious question here; does ANYONE believe that there is a SINGLE writer on this "newspaper" assigned to actually do some INVESTIGATION of senator hair, and his theft of taxpayer dollars while he was committing adultery?

And, take a guess as to how much time other reporters have for the Democratic Majority leader in the Senate?

Course, remember, according to the buggywhip here this is one of THE "most objective newspapers in the country"

Geesh.

Important new revised analysis of the health insurance reform bill by the Congressional Budget Office: it reduces the deficit by $118 in the first 10 year, $600 billion in the second ten years. Overall, it will cover the tens of millions of Americans who lack basic health insurance protection, yet it will cost us less than if we kept the current system and did nothing.

Ensign should resign the same day Barney Frank resigns. If all the morally corrupt politicians resigned, we would almost no one left.

Wait a minute. That's not such a bad idea?

I do not know why these commentators punish themselves. I would just stick to reading the Las Vegas Sun. That is more their type of news. They could read all about Ensign in the Sun.

So, not only does this paper get scooped by an out of town newspaper about the biggest story of the day in Nevada, we can't even get the publisher of this paper to NOT buckle under to pressure from the "good" senators camp and leave up a mealy mouth version of the story.

I call censorship!

Course, this is just my "theory".

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ARTICLE ABOUT ensign?

I KNOW THAT "one of the most objective newspapers in the country" would NEVER HAVE INTENTIONALLY BUCKLED UNDER TO PRESSURE FROM THE "good" senator and taken this story down; would it?

I call censorship!

But, hey, that's just my "theory".
