Sen. Reid: We are not your pets ... we are your constituency

The Re-elect Harry Reid campaign sent out a nasty little press release Sunday attempting to knock down my column on Sunday entitled "What's Wrong with Sen. Reid? A Piecemeal Amnesty Bill". It's a sad retort to cloud an otherwise legitimate and timely issue.

Primarily an attempt to marginalize the messenger (it won't work, BTW) and partly a feeble spin to say that Sen. Reid's move to attach a rider to the defense spending bill that would give citizenship to the children of illegal aliens who complete two years of military service is "anything but amnesty".

If this isn't amnesty, then I'd like the senator to tell me exactly what it is. And how does it work, anyway? A young man says he was born of illegal immigrants and volunteers for service. How do we verify the story? I assume the government confirms and identifies his illegal parents? Then, what do we do with the parents?

I'll tell you what Sen. Reid and President Obama plan to do. Nothing. The next DREAM Act will grant citizenship to the parents of any soldier.

From a process standpoint, why are Dems talking about a plan like this piecemeal without talking about border security and enforcement of existing immigration laws? I thought Sen. Reid was for comprehensive immigration reform? This bill is in no way comprehensive.

Sen. Reid owes Nevadans a clear explanation. Instead of sending out a cowardly press release like the one below, he should come to Nevada and stand before the people and press and talk to us.

Leadership, sir, is not a press release like this. Whether you agree with our opinions or not, we are not your pets. We are your constituency.

Subject: Sherm Shills for Sharron (again)

Las Vegas Review-Journal publisher Sherm Frederick is at it again. Sharron Angle’s cheerleader-in-chief is out with yet another (yawn) column going after Nevada Senator Harry Reid. This time the publisher of the paper whose credibility has been called into question by the highly-respected Poynter Institute and the LA Times penned an attack on Sen. Reid based purely on GOP talking points and his own special brand of “insight”.

Simply put, Frederick is being dishonest. The DREAM Act is anything but amnesty. The proposed amendment to the Defense Authorization bill would allow children who grew up in this country after being brought into it by parents who illegally immigrated here an opportunity to serve in the military as part of a lengthy pathway to citizenship. I’ll repeat, even though they were brought into the US at very young ages, through no fault of their own, they would be asked to defend this country if they want to stay here. This would not apply to their parents.

The Defense Department also support the Dream Act, telling the Wall Street Journal that it is "a 'smart' way to attract quality recruits to the all-volunteer force."

Reid opposes amnesty for illegal immigrants; that’s why he voted against President Reagan’s amnesty plan in the ‘80s and he would do it again today.

But in Sharron and Sherm’s world, the facts don’t matter. Angle’s campaign is in shambles and the candidate herself has become a national embarrassment, but Frederick is stuck with her after investing significant R-J resources in his personal vendetta against Reid for years.

While Frederick is attacking Reid, Nevadans are asking, “What’s wrong with Sharron Angle?” Plenty. She wants to kill Social Security and Medicare She wants to privatize the Veterans Administration She is all for storing 77,000 tons of nuclear waste 90 miles away from Las Vegas. Talk about a jobs killer, just imagine what one accident could do. She wants to get rid of the Education Department and the student loans and grants that it provides She says rape and incest victims should be forced to have the baby and turn lemons into lemonade

That’s just the beginning. While the Review-Journal has long lost credibility thanks to the antics of its publisher and questionable political reporting in the Senate race, people can learn more about Angle’s extreme agenda for Nevada in her own words www.therealsharronangle.com.

Reid does not oppose amnesty for illegal aliens. who ever thinks this is utterly blind by the lines that dingy harry reid tells you.
His staff says he supports EVerify, yet the last two times Jeff Sessions of Alabama has offered it for amendments, Reid voted against it once, then REFUSED to allow it come to the floor for a vote the second time.

IF dingy Harry Reid opposed amnesty, he would not be trying to put the dream act that would only benefit illegal aliens with a defense bill.

I guess Reid will be singularly embarrassed himself, when the "national embarrassment", whose "campaign is in a shambles" beats him on November 2.
It looks to me similar to the Hilary campaign, when the direction changed weekly as Obumma's polls climbed.

That press release is pure Alinsky. Distortions, lies, belittle your opponent (yawn), change the subject, etc. etc.

That's all he's got. Like a cornered rat. Harry, how could you let yourself go, this far down?

People that hate and blame immigrants and see them exclusively as illegals naturally have a difficult time understanding that simply getting rid of them is not an answer. A road to student citizenship is what Senator Reid is proposing as a part of the immigration solution. 25 years later and most conservatives would say that Reagan's immigration amnesty was a complete failure. A Reagan failure, how not unique.

Harry Reid would not bring up a comprehensive immigration reform that protects our citizens. So Harry Reid is pushing Part 2 of the Democrat’s Illegals Amnesty "The Dream Act.” Part 1 is Obama’s refusal to enforce the laws on Illegal Immigrants’ deportations, e-verify, or to closing the Border.

Instead Harry Reid is hiding amnesty in a manager-markup (remember the Health Care add-ons) of an un-related must pass bill. Reid is holding Bills Hostage.

Harry Reid trolling for votes. Is Harry that afraid on Angle?

Sen. Reid: We are not your pets ... we are your constituency

Gee, Sherman, you're getting nasty when people show you your errors. Senator Reid never said we were his pets and you can't show where he did any more than you can show where he's trying to give amnesty to illigals.

If this isn't amnesty, then I'd like the senator to tell me exactly what it is.

He did; it's right in the bill.

And how does it work, anyway?

Now you're asking?

A young man says he was born of illegal immigrants and volunteers for service. How do we verify the story?

You don't have to; he just told you. Like I told you in a previous column, we've had that military citizenship program for over 50-years. Bush even expanded it.

I thought Sen. Reid was for comprehensive immigration reform? This bill is in no way comprehensive.

NOW you admit you read the bill? You're kind of flip-flopping around here, Sherman. Kind of like your party.

Keep up the good work, Sherm!

Harry's on the ropes and it's gonna get uglier.

How many terms (chances) has he had now?

Ring the bell and retire Harry!

Sherman, this should show you a couple things.
1) Reid's "pets" are reading your opinion page.
2) They are woried that you have a opposite opinion.
3) All the millions of ad attacks Reid placed do less to sway opinion than a publishers view.
4) That they can't understand why people hate Reid, and think you are the reason. The real reason is we are individual thinkers and not SHEEPPLE(people+sheep).

I for one enjoy your view, thank you.
Who is Jon Summers? I bet he is paid for by Reid. I just keep getting more sick thinking this old, senile, and desperate man Reid is still our Senator. Let's hope honesty, truth, and liberty prevail over cowards and liars.

Obama, Reid and others will stop at nothing to push any type of back door amnesty through.

Yes, I am a democrat, have voted the democratic ticket in the past, but this the end of the line for me.

One doesn't have to belong to any particular party to see just how wrong this is. The dream act is just the beginning of the chain reaction for amnesty for all illegals in the US. Our leaders should represent the american citizens by pushing strict enforcement of the excisting immigration laws, not pandering to illegals.

Reid should instead introduce a bill that stops all social services, free education and health care for illegals. That would stop the fleecing of american tax payers and the illegals would self deport. No freebies, no illegals... it's that simple.

My wife was working for the customs service when president Reagan's amnesty plan was in operation. It seemed to have quite a lot of hoops to jump through and investigations of the character of those who applied. I don't think I would trust CIS to run any program and do it well. Two years of military or college isn't that big a deal. If anything, there should be at least 6 years of active/reserve/national guard service required.

SECURE THE BORDERS FIRST. Don't give them incentives to jump over illegal. We have legal immigration methods. USE THEM! Reid is a coward and a liar. Perfect fit given the Democrats advertisements and agenda.

Harry can get a lot of "children" qualified for the dream act when the bill says the children can be as old as 35.

According to Harry Reid, 26 years old is a child for healthcare insurance. What the **** is wrong with Nevada? 26 and 35 year old children right? Someone should build a retirment home next to the unemployment office so Reid has a place to look at the real Nevada after Novemeber.

Are you blind to the fact pharma companies have Reid in their pocket. It is fine to agree with a party, but don't be naive to the facts. Harry Reid is a bald-faced liar, and so are those who speak for him. They know it, we know it, and hopefully enough voters will turn out for the general election to get Harry and his lying cronies thrown out of office.

Ahh, yes. The Tea Baggers. Let's take, for example, NY Tea Party darling and GOP candidate Jim Russell, who it turns out has penned a lengthy essay on the importance of racial segregation, and in opposition of interracial relationships and integration of schools. No racists in the Tea Party. Nope.
Maybe "taking our country back" is to suggest the country return to an imagined pre-civil rights era utopia that middle class whites apparently hold so dear.

Yet the facts are there. More people employed every month for the last 11 months. The stock market is up; GDP up and increasing for the last 3 quarters; along with the jobs up is manufacturing up, retail sales up, private sector alone has added jobs for eleven consecutive months, corporate earnings rising, CEOs are reporting greater confidence, corporate profits are up and are near all time highs, Wall Street (where big profits are back) is hiring again, company profits at the largest companies in the country increasing to record highs, Service Index increasing for 10 months, U.S. dollar rising in value, the cost of the U.S. debt declining, inflation is down, the value of the U.S. dollar is up, U.S. companies are sitting on record stores of cash, interest rates are at all time lows, U.S. treasuries are selling at record levels, interest on those instruments are the lowest rates in history, Americans paying less in taxes than when Reagan was in office, gas price 30-40% less than when Bush was in office, banks saved and paying us back with interest, auto industry saved and paying back with interest, AIG saved and paying us back with interest, healthcare for thousands saved and will pay us back, troops being withdrawn from war.
