Transparency in Komen fundraising a good thing

If anything good comes of the controversy over the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast-cancer charity not giving then giving money to Planned Parenthood it is the revelation that if you donate money to Komen some of it eventually makes its way to the controversial organization called Planned Parenthood.

Most people won't care. Some will go under the rubric that any money given to Planned Parenthood, even when it is restricted to a worthy cause such as breast cancer screening, allows Planned Parenthood to spend more of their non-restricted money toward providing abortions.

That kind of transparency is good for donors.

I am curious now as to where they spend their money and hope someone looks into it ...as to planned parent hood...it would seem that they are the real winner in this....not only did Kommen reverse the decission today planned parenthood receive a lot of new donations....the only thing that has been hurt by this is Kommen....many people will no longer support them and obviously they got more negative than positive feed back

Komen pulled it's corporate head out of it's corporate fecundum and reveresed this horrible decision.

Now the battle to get the right wing zealots off the SGK board begins.

I guess whne you are the losing party, and know you are going to lose big next year, you start doing rushed crazy things like Wlaker in WI or Brewer in AZ.

It never ceases to amaze me how simple minded the GOP is to think that this rushed attack on unions and other perceived threats (like planned parenthood) won't simply get rolled back after the 2012 elections when all the tea party morons are kicked to the curb.

Jack: Strange how good will come out of bad isn't it?

I mean, the radical overreach by the far right wing in critical election states like Wisconsin, Ohio, and Florida will play a key role in the re-election of President Obama.

Who could have predicted that the tea parties impact on the elections in those states, would practically guarantee the re-election of the candidate they intended to defeat?

Your timing was impeccable bad. The information was readily available on both sides. Note that in both cases it was less than 1% of the budget and that the funding was continuing to some Planned Parenthood operations.

It was simply a right wing political manuever overturned by the opponents.

Perhaps the worst thing is the cover up by Komen. Seldom have people tried so hard to avoid the obvious.

A friend of mine said Komen's response to this showed that they must have hired Herman Cain's crisis management expert. What a mess. I guess it doesn't help to hire a defeated right-wing gubernatorial candidate from Georgia to be your policy executive.

This will hardly stop the GOP extremists in their subjugation of women; other minorities, and eventually, themselves.

Drop in the unemployment rate to its lowest level in three years propels stocks higher. The Dow jumped more than 130 points, drawing the average to its highest mark since before financial crisis began in 2008. Now that's transparency.

When will the ultr-right wingnuts realize that by providing medical care including cancer screening, contraceptives, etc help the whole family as well as the community. Every child has a right to be wanted and by using contraceptives, more women will be able to choose when they and their spouse / sig other want a child & can take care of that child. It keeps teenages in school and thus enhancing their ability to support themselves. Planned Parenthood is NOT ABOUT ABORTION. Not even those who work at PP want women to become pregnant if they can't care for that child.
And..finally--just because your religion does not support abortion, you should not be able to force that upon those women who have to make difficult decisions to choose abortions. It is not easy for anyone but sometimes it is necessary.

The Komen Foundation allowed a political agenda to influence a noteworthy charitable agenda. I'm guessing that they won't do that again. In the process, another noteworthy charitable organization received a massive increase in charitable donations. In the end, many lives will be saved by both organizations.

"Abortion is always a choice; never is it necessary." Sherm, It it extremely fortunate that you will never be in the position of having to make the choice of performing an abortion in order to save the life of the mother.

Query:

When is a choice not a choice?

When the far, far, far right wing says so, that's when.

Ah the things they will say sometimes.

When is a choice not a choice?

The questioner answers itself. The questioner offers these same choices daily.

I say ask Hobson.

Query:

When does a fact become an opinion according to some people?

When the fact is posted to an "opinion blog".

I mean, I hope these guys never get tired of being so ridiculous; my life is so dull otherwise.
Written by: beentheredonethat on Friday, Feb. 03, 2012 at 7:06 PM -- Report abuse
That depends on if it IS a fact. Sometimes opinions are considered facts because they are believed by so many people. For instance, if I postulated President Obama is a lousy president that isn't a fact, just a political belief,or opinion. Only history may judge if it is a fact. Look at Ford and Reagan. They were considered bad presidents at the time they were in office, but history seems to have vindicated them. Look at Carter, history seems to have decided he was a bad President
Congress, on the other-hand, debate facts all the time. It doesn't make the facts opinions, just the opinion they have on the facts. They could be outside on a bright summer's day and debate wither the sky was blue. That's a fact.
Facts posted on opinion blogs couched in opinion become opinions in and of themselves. That is my opinion.

Here is a study on reasons for abortion:

http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/journals/3711005.pdf

The life of the mother reason is soooooo rare that it did not even register on the study.

Rape and incest register around 1.5%.

Almost all the rest of the reasons are that did not want the baby.

Women have choices.

They can use birth control.

It seems a whole heck a lot of them believe that abortion is a valid means of birth control.

Over one millions abortions occur a year.

That is a horrible stat.

Partial birth abortions should be banned.

I believe like most of the country agrees on that one.

Abortion clinics should be regulated by the states.

I believe like most of the country agrees on that one.

Children under 16 should not have an abortion unless a parent or guadarian is notified or a court order is in hand.

I believe that most of country agrees with that.

Abortions should not be funded by taxpayer dollars.

I believe that most of country agres with that.

The above are reasonable measures that are only opposed by Obama and his extremist friends.

Abortion is never necessary? A pregnant woman gets cancer, needs chemo and/or radiation therapy. This will terminate the pregnacy more than likely, causing complications. So Sherm, (like those in the Republican debate) has an answer. LET HER DIE! Yeah!
Written by: mrs ed on Saturday, Feb. 04, 2012 at 5:43 AM -- Report abuse
It's interesting that in all these discussions, I never find ANY reference to the fact that there is no such thing as perfectly reliable birth control. That it is quite possible to take all the necessary precautions, and still get pregnant. So I do not see how it is possible to categorically state that ALL abortions are morally irresponsible, and lazy, and unnecessary. Personally, I actually agree that if you can't visualize EVER marrying someone and having children with them, then you shouldn't sleep with them AT ALL. But I do NOT agree that it follows that all forms of abortion should therefore be illegal, and possibly even birth control as well, and that sex should be for NO other reason but procreation. As so many individual freedom- and privacy-loving right wing Libertarian extremists seem to want to force on the rest of us.

And by the way, Sherm, if abstinence is the only truly reliable form of birth control, as so many puritan moralists like yourself insist, then it follows that the ultimate goal here is to ENcourage having sex only for procreation, and DIScourage recreational sex. But if we are going to DIScourage recreational sex, what about all the other people in Vegas who are trying to ENcourage it? Shouldn't we do something about all those nudie billboards all over town, for example? Maybe we should censor them? Or are we going to just dismiss the question like we always do, and say that if people fall for that pressure, then it is their own fault? Too bad everybody is NOT as morally strong and pure as you and Athos, Sherm.

Speaking of transparency here's one you won't find being cut and pasted by this blogger... In Indiana, a Hamilton County jury found Republican Secretary of State Charlie White guilty of six of seven felony charges, including false registration, voting in another precinct, submitting a false ballot, theft and two counts of perjury.

Conservatism is the philosophy of cave dwellers. You know the "lets not try to change stuff cause even if its not working, the alternative is too frightening" types?

Hard to believe you identify yourself with that.

I thought Sherm was banished to the Nevada outback because he could not deliver Nevada to the tea party wacko Sharon Angle, but here he is again. As is his habit, he took a good thing and made it ugly. In the tradition of Karl Rove. He was correct to say that "That kind of transparency is good for donors," but then twists that to mean that showing that the Komen Foundation is becoming a political group is a bad thing. But Sherm thinks that donors are gangsters because they want to keep their charitable work separate from somebody elses political position. Gangsters? Hardly. If Sherm was not drinking when he wrote this column he should, nevertheless, say he was.

No one quits the feminist mob, and lives to tell about it.
