Lowden to announce resignation from GOP top spot

Sue Lowden will soon make it official, sources are telling the Review-Journal. She plans to resign as chairwoman of the bedraggled Nevada Republican Party effective at the end of the month, presumably to mount a spirited campaign for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Surely Reid is hoping Lowden runs her campaign the way she’s run the Republican Party in the state. The Nevada GOP is at its lowest ebb in many, many years, and although she doesn’t deserve all the criticism at some point someone in the political press is bound to utter a critical word about her inability to register new Republicans and get out the vote.

In an R-J editorial board meeting earlier this week, a candid Rep. Dean Heller admitted his party is in trouble. Heller also said he believes he can help put the state Republican Party back on top. He estimated the job would take about five years.

Someone had better get started – 2010 is right around the corner.

THAT's GREAT - But when will Dina Titus declare for either (a) NV Governor or (b) Harry Reid's Senate seat?

That "[soon to be named] person in the political press" just might end up being Jon Ralston of "The Sun" - whose two prior memorable one liners on Channel 8 News - before a speechless Garry Waddell were as follow = "I love the national political contributions of the City of Las Vegas and the State of NV. Vegas is the only city I know where the town drunk becomes Mayor. And the Silver State is unique for allowing the Village Idiot to become its Governor"! OK, Jon - we are all waiting with our baited breathes for you to top that!!!
