UNLV 91, Pittsburg State 52
Tre’Von Willis scored 17 points and Kendall Wallace 16 as UNLV rolled over Pittsburg State 91-52 in the Rebels’ regular-season opener at the Thomas & Mack Center.
UNLV extended a 43-26 halftime lead to 67-34 on Willis’ steal and dunk with 11:52 remaining. Willis scored 13 in the second half.
The Rebels attempted a school-record 52 free throws in the game. The previous mark was 51 against Wyoming on March 3, 2001.
The Gorillas, a Division II team from Kansas, led for most of the opening 10 minutes before the Rebels started to take control.
Freshman guard Justin Hawkins scored 11 points for UNLV, which hosts UNR on Wednesday.
