UNLV's football team nabbed another local recruit when Desert Oasis High School offensive lineman Cameron Jefferson committed tonight.
He is the sixth local player to pledge to play for first-year coach Bobby Hauck and his staff.
Jefferson (6 feet 6 inches, 250 pounds), who chose the Rebels over UNR and Northern Arizona, said he was swayed by "the coaches, the players, the togetherness and the environment. It had a really good vibe.
"I want to be part of a new tradition."
Desert Oasis coach Faron Seibel said the new UNLV coaches' commitment to local recruits is getting noticed.
"I know some of the guys from when they were on the coaching staff in Montana," Seibel said. "Bobby recruits, and he's real good at it. One thing I talked to him about was hitting the ground running. Once the local kids get involved, the rest will come in."
Jefferson is the third recruit to commit to the Rebels this weekend. The others are quarterback Taylor Barnhill (6-4, 210) of Northwest High in Justin, Texas, and tight end Jordan Sparkman (6-5, 230) of Point Loma High in San Diego.
