DINING: Whiskies, chocolates and more

The next Whisk(e)y Wednesday at Andre’s at the Monte Carlo, 3770 Las Vegas Blvd. South, is from 9 to 11 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 1). It will feature chocolates and whiskeys from around the world and is $25 in advance or $35 at the door. For details, call 798-7151. ...

Megan Romano, longtime executive pastry chef at Aureole at Mandalay Bay, will be cooking at the James Beard House in New York City on Thursday (Feb. 2) as part of Carnivores’ Delight, hosted by the Certified Angus Beef brand. Her dessert course, Where’s the Beef,” will be a dark chocolate salted-caramel tart with a citrus salad, candied kumquats and cocoa-nib Florentine crisp. It’s Romano’s third appearance at the house. ...

Headed toward Valentine’s Day, Ethel M. Chocolates has announced its 2012 specialty offerings, which include heart-shaped boxes in 13-piece ($22), 20-piece ($30) and 53-piece ($60) sizes, plus tins of foil-wrapped solid milk or dark chocolate hearts.

See’s Candies also is featuring heart-shaped boxes, from 4 ounces ($6.35) to 1 pound ($21.60), plus heart shapes including the Bordeaux (with brown sugar buttercream, $4.90) and more.

And Max Brenner, Chocolate by the Bald Man at the Forum Shops at Caesars, 3500 Las Vegas Blvd. South, is offering a Love Package ($15.90), Love Pralines ($12.90), Love Hug Mug ($9.90) and Love Favorites ($6.50) in addition to its signature “chocolate mood” experience of being surrounded by chocolate bricks, candles and pralines and tins and crates filled with cocoa beans.
