SHOOTING STARS: The BBC’s back in town for another Vegas close-up

Through the years (or at least the years Shooting Stars has been in existence), the British Broadcasting Corp. has frequently turned its cameras on Las Vegas, in series ranging from “The History of Magic” — where Lance Burton and Penn & Teller were featured guests — to “The Real Hustle,” during which a trio of tricksters demonstrated eight episodes’ worth of scams, and how to avoid them.
But now, after all this time, Las Vegas is finally ready for its BBC close-up: in “The Culture and History of Las Vegas,” which is scheduled to shoot through Oct. 30.
In addition to various casinos, the production is expected to visit Boulder City, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and Valley of Fire State Park before completing its Southern Nevada shoot.
‘Deal’ dates: The deals, and the cameras, roll on at the Tropicana, where CBS’ “Let’s Make a Deal” revival continues, offering a one-in-18 chance for costumed contestants to compete for big deals — or zonks — if they’re chosen to play.
This week, “Let’s Make a Deal” tapes Thursday through Sunday, with audience call times at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  Two-a-day tapings continue Oct. 28-30, Nov. 1-2, Nov. 6-8, Nov. 12, Nov. 14-15, Nov. 19-22, Dec. 3-6, Dec. 10-13, Dec. 17-20.
For free tickets, call the Tropicana at (800) 706-8767 or go online to www.cbs.com/daytime/lets_make_a_deal and click on “Online Ticketing.”
Mystery solved: The homegrown murder mystery “Red Herring” winds down, with only a few more days of production remaining, writer-producer Josh Cohen reports.
Over the weekend, the neo-noir thriller was expected to revisit Turnberry Place’s Stirling Club and the Juhl high-rise in the arts district, with a Renaissance Drive office park providing backdrops Tuesday.
“Wednesday we do two quick scenes at the Mesquite Police Department, as they were the only police in Southern Nevada that wanted to help us,” Cohen e-mails.
A wrap party at a posh model home where the production previously filmed rounds out the schedule, he notes, adding: “And then I sleep for a week.”
‘Yard’ crashing: DIY Network’s prime-time “Yard Crashers” series shot two separate episodes last week for the show’s upcoming fourth season, which begins next March.
Both projects wanted to incorporate some “Vegas flair” to reflect their locations (in the southern end of the valley), according to producers.
As for the Southern Nevada stop, “we're traveling the show a bit for some variety,” explains Ross Babbit, DIY’s programming director. Besides, “it’s a fun market!”
Homeowners Will Kenderes and Hella Nagi had a sparse, desertlike yard before the “Yard Crashers” created a lush landscape, complete with a barbecue island that doubles as a dining table — with a running-water feature.
The Henderson backyard of Melanie Jorgenson, meanwhile, was scheduled to get an outdoor kitchen with a custom dining table — this one with a fire feature.
HALO there: Cameras were set to roll backstage Saturday at Mandalay Bay during the Justin Timberlake and Friends benefit concert for Shriners Hospital.
Naturally, those cameras focused on Timberlake, but someone else was expected to join him in the spotlight: 17-year-old Leah Stoltz of Smithtown, N.Y.
Stoltz is one of four teens featured on the “TeenNick HALO Awards,” an hourlong December special that will honor teens “helping and leading others” (hence the HALO Awards).
Stoltz, who has scoliosis, started her own support group at 13, leading fundraising efforts to benefit research; she also joined Timberlake at last week’s benefit golf tournament.
Reality bites: And in the ever-spinning world of reality TV, History’s “Pawn Stars” continues production at the Gold & Silver Pawn, while Holly Madison’s self-titled E! reality series rolls on around town. Speaking of E! — “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” was scheduled to grab footage of Kim K.’s Tao birthday bash last weekend for the show’s fourth season.
