Why obey a lawless court?

I know I'm showing my age here, but aren't judges supposed to make sure the laws get enforced?

The Obama administration declines to enforce the immigration laws currently on the books — despite Mr. Obama having sworn an oath to do so — which would call for rounding up and deporting illegal aliens wherever they're found.

"But you can't round up 12 million people!" the fans of amnesty squawk. Which is like telling your dad you can't plow the whole field.

"Son," he'd say, "it's a nice day for it. So you just start here; plow the first furrow, and see how it goes. If you can only get it half done, come on down the house later and we'll feed you half your lunch."

"But how are we to spot them without checking the ID of everyone who looks Hispanic, which would be evil 'profiling'?" the fans of amnesty whine.

Oh, I don't know. You wouldn't have wanted to send ICE agents to check the IDs of all those Mexican ladies celebrating outside the courthouse in Phoenix when Clinton appointee Judge Susan Bolton stayed enforcement of huge chunks of the new Arizona law Wednesday, I don't suppose.

What percentage do you think would be "hits" if they just sent someone down to the post office to chat with everyone sending an "envio" to Mexico ... instead of the U.S. GOVERNMENT POSTAL SERVICE actually advertising to attract this business ... in Spanish?

The judge held the new Arizona law, which incorporates pieces of the actual federal law, is improper because only federal agents can enforce federal law.

The ramifications of that precedent are darned interesting, and I'd like to see the federals live with them. No more taking along a local cop with them on drug or gun raids to try and resolve those pesky jurisdictional issues. No more counting on local cops to help them at the airports, or anywhere else.

But what the judge really means, of course, is that Arizona cops busting illegals and then calling federal immigration cops to come haul them away would seriously embarrass the federals, because it would become obvious to everyone that they'd just be driving the scofflaws around the corner and letting them go. Presuming they showed up, at all.

What's at the heart of Arizonans' objections? Racism? I don't think so. I lived in Arizona for years and saw plenty of white folks and Hispanic folks working side-by-side. I also know plenty of proud American citizens of Hispanic descent who'd like to see the laws enforced — with or without enactment of a new, enforceable "bracero" program.

I think the real problem is that struggling Arizona taxpayers are being forced to pay for the schooling, the free emergency room health care, and lots of other benefits now enjoyed by these millions of illegals, well ... illegally.

And what law requires them to do that? No law. The courts have simply ordered taxpayers to meet an endlessly growing demand for free stuff, because it seemed like a nice thing to do. Though I've never seen any judge say, "and you can start by using my salary."

So when there IS a law, the courts rule the people have no legal avenue to get the law enforced, and when there ISN'T any law, the courts just make it up because it feels good.

Why? Why couldn't the federal judge have shown some initiative and just issued a writ of mandamus, instructing the Obama administration to start rounding up and deporting illegals, to start enforcing the law, to give overburdened Arizona taxpayers some relief? And "If you don't like the law, you control both damned houses of Congress," she could have said, "Gather up your votes and either change the law, or repeal it. You want open borders? Repeal all the immigration laws, lay off all the border guards, stop pretending, and take your chances at the polls."

If the courts are no longer an independent branch of government, which can be trusted to haul the executive branch out behind the woodshed and give it a hiding when it refuses to do its job ... how long do they expect us to keep following their orders?

I'm not saying the courts have to always please the majority. Sometimes the mob does have to be reminded the Constitution protects the liberties of the minority, even to do things the majority finds appalling. Any constitutional authorization for the War on Drugs, or to regulate drugs and medicines at all, or to stop 14-year-old girls from buying machine guns over the counter for cash? Nope, sorry. Since there are no such delegated powers, all such liberties are protected by the 9th, 10th, and 14th amendments.

And yes, even illegal aliens have human and civil rights — no one should be allowed to just round them up and shoot them. They should be treated humanely ...

... all the way back to the border.

It is impossible to follow the logic here, but this seems to be consistent with his record of urging readers of this newspaper to violate the law.

Apparently the transmission from the mother ship was garbled and Vyn just cut and pasted it.

And No Vin, judges don't enforce laws. The executive branch enforces laws. Not sure how it works on your planet though.

Federal Judges are sometimes 'wrong.'

How about 6 votes per person by Federal order ?

Since the Democrats are holding the losing hand for November, they've got to play the racism card to stir up hostility towards the Republicans. What better way than shout that only evil racists would actually want our immigration laws enforced?

I guess in 3 months we'll see how successful this strategy is...

Meanwhile, Obama is working on "stroke-of-the-pen" amnesty, since he doesn't have the votes in Congress to do it legitimately. What was the old saying about power corrupting?

ok...watch this....im going to solve a few problems in a few lines...anxious for the feedback...1. Bring US forces home from the Middle East. We're not being "invaded" by Iraqis and Afghanis. 2. Mobilize war trained US forces and invade Mexico under the reasoning that the Mexican govt is defunct...unable to govern and stop lawlwssness and crime being committed there and here, therefore making Mexico either a territory i.e Puerto Rico or grant statesship via same process as the other 50. 3. This solves the immigration issue because ALL Mexican "nationals" in this country or there would become US citizens and be taxed, documented, etc. The jobs and opportunities creating the infrastructure...roads, schools, hospitals, govt buildings would create a plethora of jobs and investment opportunities. 4. The border to Mexico's south..Guatemala and Belize would be easier to police than the 2,000+ miles we're defending now. 5. Legalize marijuana to minimize organized crime's ability to use the black market to generate income. Ease the monetary burden of incarcerating and using court docket time for simple "users". Tax $ could be used for education and rehabilation...this has effectively reduced cigarette and alcohol useage. There will always be a % of the population who will abuse anything.

Come now, Jack, even dyed-in-the-wool Democrats are not particularly happy with Obama, because they're beginning to see through the false left/right paradigm. His connections to the fascist/globalist banksters is becoming clear.

Obama is holding three losing cards right now: the economy, the oil spill and the illegal wars. He's got a couple of neutral cards: health care and "financial reform", both of which won't be neutral once their ramifications are known better. He's also got Cap 'n' Trade, which he's tossed outa the deck, and then illegal immigration, which he can only win by making it a racial issue.

Looks pretty bleak for the Democrats, especially those looking for the independent vote. If people are voting their wallets in November, they will be a major House cleaning...

Gee, Vin, where was all that 'illegal alien' talk when the GOP was distorting our country? In fact, I really don't hear Republican Congressman yelling about running illegals out of the country even now. Why their silence?

Rhetorical question. While Bush and the GOP were starting unnecessary wars, deregulating Wall Street for our economy's demise and increasing the national debt by giving tax cuts to the rich, they wanted the illegal's here for increasing the job pool and keeping the cost of labor down. Now you begrudge the Democrats for turning those illegal, unemployed, workers into votes? Show me a few Republican congressmen yelling at (potential voter) illegals to leave….

I believe you'll find those Republican Congressmen trying to dodge fact that President Obama saves us from a depression and is pulling us from a recession. All while fixing healthcare and saving General Motors (that the GOP wanted to fail).

if you TRULY believe that we've been saved and GM has been saved then you really dont understand the dynamics behind a "nat'l debt". Nothing was saved...its merely been POSTPONED and become an even bigger noose around our necks AND now our children and grandchildren's necks. How about yo go out and spend ALL your money and run up an incredible debt but dont increase your income...how long could your household keep that up? Unfortunately, you and our present administration dont know simple arithmetic.

The main problem (that I have) with the democrat's philosophy is this:

The American people are treated as stupid, defenseless, and in need of constant protection (from bad people that want to steal their candy).

But what makes those bureaucrats and politicians, that want to save us from ourselves, deserving of such responsibility?

Are they so infallible that only they are capable of making life and death decisions? And at what cost? Is there any empirical evidence that may show us that we are better served to allow someone else (these politicians) tell us how to live our lives?

I don't think so.

We use to have a saying (as a kid). "Who died and made YOU King?"

The problem of illegal immigration could be solved for probably one percent of the budget of the Department of alleged Defense. However, the leadership of BOTH major parties wants illegal immigration. Why? The Democrats figure they get millions of votes. Both Republicans and Democrats get millions of cheap, exploitable laborers for their corporate buddies in our mercantilist system. And both parties figure they have to let illegals in to prevent an uprising in Mexico against Washington's corrupt corporatist buddies running that country.

"if you TRULY believe that we've been saved and GM has been saved then you really dont understand the dynamics behind a 'nat'l debt'."

Which has nothing to do with the fact General Motors was saved and is now making a profit and paying back that money.

"Nothing was saved...its merely been POSTPONED and become an even bigger noose around our necks AND now our children and grandchildren's necks."

No, GM was saved and we were saved from a depression.

"How about yo go out and spend ALL your money and run up an incredible debt but dont increase your income...how long could your household keep that up?

Let's look at your example: If I spend NO money, I would have starved and been kicked out of my house." By using credit, I (and those I spend money on) would live and I would save the house. Yes, I would be in debt, but I would STILL have been saved. This is the same for our country.

"Unfortunately, you and our present administration dont know simple arithmetic."

Unfortunately, you and our present right-wingers don't know simple economics. Fortunately Bush's and Obama's economists did.

"Jerry, GM should have failed because that is how it works."

So the country should have failed, too? No. That is NOT how it works.

"Do not reward failure with bailouts."

GM didn't do anything wrong. Our country's economy failed and people couldn't afford cars, houses and food. Not only did Bush sign the bill to bail out banks and start TARP, money also went to farmers to continue not growing crops.

"It's all just ugly and the GOV. needs to stay out of it."

And let the country fail? Let the banks fail? Why? It was the government (under Bush) that caused the failure.

"Jerry would vote for a backstabbing lawyer liar if they ran as a democrat."

Is it against the law not to enforce and uphold our laws? When we don't do our job well enough to reflect what is written on our paychecks we either shape up or lose our job. It is our federal governments job to protect our borders and control and enforce our immigration laws. They have not been doing their job.

Mr. Obama, the citizens of our great country want to put you on notice, you have not been doing your job and protecting our country from illegal immigrants that have been allowed for far to long to do whatever they feel like. You have shown us your lack of interest to protect your tax paying citizens.
For you to stop a state, who its people, state and local government have been trying to protect itself from foreign nationals entering our national border illegally is a sham. Who has been screaming to you for help? You stop them from protecting themselves and then waltz away and do nothing with any substance to help this troubled state in our union.
Mr. Obama you were elected and took an oath to do your job, to protect the american citizens. You don't seem to be accomplishing much.
You should quit and start a teleprompter reading school. This seems to be the only thing you know how to do.

Jerry Sturdivant do you not remember the Bush administration cutting funding for most federally funded programs?
Remember the money being funded into the Afghani and Iraqi occupations, which by the way hasn't stopped! So much of that needed money that used to feed programs in our country has been reduced if not taken away altogether because of the cost of our occupations in the mideast.
If we could take the billions spent on unneeded wars and put it to use for our needy we would be doing better to be helping our country. Everything our politicians want us to pay taxes on seem to benefit big business or our politicians themselves.
We the people...

The big difference here between asking a farmers son to plow the field and the government to round illegals is government is a farmers son. Government is terrible at what ever it does and when it fails it rewards itself. What so hard is it for people like Vin to understand about this? He normally gets it. Why the change over this issue?

When it comes to enforcing the immigration laws there have only been three Presidents to really enforce them. Hoover, during the Great Depression. Truman after World WarII, and Eisenhower after Korea. So lets not talk about who is better on immigration. They all do nothing to enforce those laws. It would be nice if somebody did.
