Woodbury, other elected officials face term limits challenge

Secretary of State Ross Miller has issued challenges to the candidacies of longtime Clark County Commissioner Bruce Woodbury and other elected officials Miller says may not run for re-election this year under Nevada's term limits amendment.

In addition to Woodbury, University Regents Thalia Dondero and Howard Rosenberg, Clark County School Board members Ruth Johnson and Mary Beth Scow, and Humboldt County School Board member Linda Schrempp face challenges.

They seem to forget they serve at the pleasure of the voters. How dare they try to challenge our will. Keep their kids out of office also.

Larry Mason -- You need to go too. Your miracle cure can't keep you on the school board forever... Time to hit the bricks!

They are hopeful that the surpreme cout will rule on the side of Woodburg who controls the entire valley, and this will be their way of tossing out the entire term limit status. I just hope the RJ willnot give in and support Woodbury proloned stay on the commission. if the court goes along with them and allow them to say RJ go after them the way you did on the tax issure.

Also, I would like to know how Bruce Woodbury sat in the middle of all the corruption and saw and heard nothing.

He must be really dense. Good Riddance.

Sam, your planning board is the good ole boys.

Just imagine, an election for the school board with no Mary Beth Scow or Ruth Johnson. Shirley Barber was the only school board member with the integrity to step down after her 12 years was up. I just want to know why Larry Mason is able to run again. I read somewhere that this is his 14th year as a school board distrustee. It makes an average joe like me to wonder why these losers try to secure these elected, but nonpaying positions. That's right readers, school board trustee positions are elected, NONPAYING positions. Perhaps these distrustees know that they can springboard these nonpaying positions into more powerful paying positions like county commission (Susan Brager, Yvonne Atkinson-Gates) and city commissions (Lois Tarkanian.

Imagine America if Bill Clinton had been able to serve a third term, or Ronald Reagan for that matter. Term Limits was instituted simply to appease the ignorants who have little or no understanding of government process. (They also have the right to recall.) In addition, District court judges should be appointed, not elected, especially here in Nevada. Furthermore, electing the sheriff is like electing military generals - it is not appropriate. Throw in the school board as well - they should be appointed proportionatly by the county commission - much like the planning board. I also recommend that since Nevada has more then two million residents - the state legislature should meet on an annual basis. Las Vegas is no longer some dusty backwater - it is a major, international city.
