Construction Caravan Hits Strip
-
Photos by Jerry Henkel/Las Vegas Review-Journal
A parade of idle construction equipment, some of it supplied by Cashman Equipment of Las Vegas, makes its way down the Strip on Tuesday as part of a rally to urge Congress to pass the highway reauthorization bill, which provides about $40 billion a year in federal transportation spending. The construction equipment industry has lost half a million jobs and the industry's unemployment rate is about 37 percent, according to Oak Brook, Ill.-based Associated Equipment Distributors. Las Vegas has lost some 19,000 construction jobs in the past 12 months and has a 13.4 percent unemployment rate, almost 4 percentage points higher than the national average. » Buy this photo
