Culinary to protest at Palace Station

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
At least 200 Culinary Local 226 members were expected to be arrested Thursday night for blocking two lanes of traffic on Sahara Avenue in front of Palace Station, an act of civil disobedience to protest what the union calls Station Casinos LLC's poor treatment of Latino workers.
Tonight's demonstration is the third protest this year to take place in front of Palace Station and comes as Station Casinos completes its bankruptcy restructuring.
The protest was also expected to draw attention to the company's "failure to provide wage increases and retirement contributions, and higher costs for worker health plans," a union spokeswoman said in a statement.
Yvanna Cancela, a union spokeswoman, expected 1,000 members to take part in the protest that begins at 5 p.m.
On March 24, a two-mile march from Culinary headquarters at 1630 S. Commerce St. to Palace Station culminated in the arrests of 100 people for blocking an entrance to the casino.

Culinary exploits minorities for their own financial gain???? LOL In other breaking news....water is wet.....fire is hot.....Maybe the culinary union should be investigated for representing "non-citizens" for legal work contracts in the United States.
Someone seriously should have contacted INS to have a few agents there during the march.
Illegal / Legal - it doesn't matter. These fine folks are "DIRTY HARRY REID VOTERS - SUPPORTERS" ---- If you don't leave them alone, Dirty Harry will have them bussed to your neighborhoods, and they can protest your breathing their air (in Spanish of course).
I have been a member of union 226 for 14 years, they help Las vegas grow and Help me make more $$- I withdrew 10 years ago because all they care about is Mexicans, they do not care about Blacks or Whites anymore "ONLY MEXICANS" They lost over 80% of thier health care fund in the Stockmarket crash after 911
they had to borrow from the Internation union and rasied they charge to hotels for every $1 you make the hotels have to give the unions 80cents that make a $10 an hour emplyee cost the Hotels $18 an hour and the unions keeps that extra for themselfs.
that way the Hotels had to cut staffing
@ Craig.Taylor,,, I’m suspecting you are insinuating people posting here are haters because they question the citizenship of those protesting and since the Culinary Union is an very active illegal alien advocate. News for you not since the time of institutionalized racism, has there ever been more bigotry and discrimination against U.S. citizens concerning hiring. Illegal immigration is 80% based on ethnicity and the willing conspiracy of both business and illegal aliens, both in agreement to work for less. This displacing literally millions of citizens across the country in jobs. The most empty barrel heads are those that believe illegals and their supporters are benign only wishing for work. Many illegals are racist, uncaring of anyone they displace or care that they lower wages add crime or taxpayer costs. Or are they concerned they have harmed the black community just as bad as or worse than the era of institutionalized racism. Perhaps if I’m correct concerning your accusations you seek a little more knowledge concerning the relationship with business and illegals and now as those responsible for the lower wages and job displacements are aligning with unions for better pay. So unfair to all those citizens they (illegals) caused so much pain, actually it’s down right hateful.
I live just off Rancho near Sahara Ave. There is only one entrance into my neighborhood, and my neighbors and I expect police to keep it clear this evening. Worthy cause or not, no group of people have the right to infringe upon the rights of others.
Labor unions are out dated and out of touch. If I gambled, I'd be at Palace Station right now. Maybe I'll go for the buffet and see if a union punk tries to stop me.
Allright, we all know Nevadans are so right wing..Hating all things ethnic and anything unionized. Anecdotally, a Sharron Angle could only make a run in anrested development' state like Nevada..With its pathetic 46% high school graduation rate, need we say more ? Hating comes so easy to 'empty barrels' doesn't it ?
As for the issue at hand: Ethnicities and unions aside, the greedy Fertittas pulled off a major bk maneuver beating investors for $2.7 billion and buying Station back for $200 million ..Even Trump (the epitomy of scoundrel), was impressed. ! Hence, if you're looking for "warm and fuzzy" from the Fertittas as to their employees, investors and locals in general, might we suggest you get a dog instead ?
As for the ignorant Culinary bosses: There are approximately 15,000 applicants for the jobs you union bosses are complaining about. No one will miss your employees or your overpaid selves. Why not lead your union members on a prolonged march out of the state..Permanently !
The only reason that they pick Palace Station is that it is the closest to the TV stations. Maybe Palace Station should roll out the thousands of employment applications they have on file, to show the culinary union that they are REALLY not needed or wanted?
Get a dozen folks to show up wearing "ICE" windbreakers and see how long their picket line lasts.
Guess with a bad economy these people are not worried about losing their jobs.
I grow tired of the unions and the race bating.. go ahead morons, block my car by standing in the street.. I will just ignore you like always.
Of all places.. the Palace station? The only reason the cooks should be protesting that place is due to the horrifying quality of food they serve there..
My feelings cancel out this whole story- I have zero respect for Stations for what they did to investors, and zero sympathy for the Culinary for hiding and aiding illegal workers.
