Latin Chamber installs new officers

Javier Trujillo, an intergovernmental relations specialist for the city of Henderson, was installed as chairman of the Latin Chamber of Commerce Nevada Inc., during the organization's annual banquet Friday at Paris Las Vegas.
Luis Valera, vice president of diversity initiatives and government relations for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, was named winner of Aurturo Cambeiro Hispanic of the Year award and Tony Sanchez, senior vice president of government and community strategy for NV Energy, received the Judge John F. Mendoza Lifetime Achievement Award.
Trujillo, who was sworn in along with the chamber's officers and board members by Gov. Brian Sandoval, discussed during brief remarks that the chamber, an advocate for the Hispanic business community in Southern Nevada, needs to become involved in the emerging financial markets in Latin America.
Other newly installed 2012 officers for the Latin Chamber include vice chairman Joe Hernandez, secretary-treasurer Maggie Arias-Petrel, assistant secretary-treasurer Daniel Tafoya and Valera, who is immediate past chairman.
Board members for 2012 are Dr. Arthur Cambeiro, Brian Ayala, Daniel Johnson, Gaby Jurica, Jose Melendrez, Judge Valorie Vega, Roman Alvarez, Tony Timmons, Andres Estrada, Aldo Aguirre, Edgar Patino, Eddie Galaz, Isauro Gonzalez, Elizabeth Gallagher, Lizette Villanueva, Juergen Barbusca, Maximilano Couvillier, Luis Ayon, Norberto Madrigal, Ramon Torres and a representative of Latino Youth Leadership.
Other annual award winners honored during the event by the chamber were: John Bertoldo for the Public Service Award; Southwest Airlines for the Tourism Award; Dr. Sherif Abdou for the Healthcare Award; Rafael Mitjans as Educator of the Year; Penny Perez as Small Business Owner; Juan Mora as Business Entrepreneur; Wal-Mart Stores as Corporation of the Year; and Phil Avila for the President's Award.

Yup,gone are the days when political patronage jobs had titles like "Parking Commissoner".

and other positions like this are poison to our governmental and educational systems let alone a burden of cost. Add several hundred similar positions and you have a budget item and an in-house lobbying body support the wants of one gender of people, hence the promoting of discrimination.
