LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
MGM Resorts International announced Monday that employees covered under the company's health-care plan can now seek support for transgender medical care.
The casino operator, which has 15 properties in Nevada, Michigan and Mississippi including 10 hotel-casinos on the Strip, will extend benefits to eligible members to receive coverage for prescription medication and counseling related to transgender care.
"This recent change in our policy formalizes this option as a coverage standard for eligible plan members," MGM Resorts Chief Diversity Officer Phyllis James said.

@ Zoe.Brain,,, I do believe you added a few professional organizations to your list and I’d be curious to see the links proving your post assessments as correct. Are there others in the AMA etc that disagree, in other words, I doubt the consensus in the medical field is 100% or even 50% in agreement that the procedures are medically necessary and should be covered by insurance companies. Of course an organization that represents transgender health, WPATH would support medical coverage for this issue but I doubt it is medically necessary. Not saying someone shouldn’t have it done but should it be covered by group medical insurance? That’s the debate and just because you post possibly some biased organizations with some professionals doesn’t mean all professionals in the medical field feel group insurance should cover it. Unfortunately people dying before 25 with one severe problem or another isn’t uncommon, and many of them self-destructing also. The question is still the same and the debate among professionals about the medical necessity is still far from conclusive.
great news and the sign of a very progressive company!!
From the Standards of Care, the professional opinion of the medics of the APA, AMA, WHO, WPATH, etc etc:
"In persons diagnosed with transsexualism or profound GID, sex reassignment surgery, along with hormone therapy and real-life experience, is a treatment that has proven to be effective. Such a therapeutic regimen, when prescribed or recommended by qualified practitioners, is medically indicated and medically necessary. Sex reassignment is not "experimental," "investigational," "elective," "cosmetic," or optional in any meaningful sense."
Not Elective
Not Cosmetic
Not Optional
They made this absolutely crystal-clear, unambiguous, just because so many people have misconceptions about this medical issue. The most severe cases die before age 25 without treatment, and psychotherapy, drugs, electroshock, even brain surgery have all proven useless.
Sex reassignment has a 98% cure rate though.
Maybe now Mr. Murren can finally get those balls he's always wanted.
Jim Murren has committed securities fraud...over and over and over!!!
Our military, law enforcement, and ELECTED OFFICIALS need to HONOR THEIR OATH TO THE U.S. CONSTITUTION!!!

@ Raoul.N.Stone,,, Glad I could offend you so easily and we all should be offended that there is actually a Chief Diversity officer as a job description. With the exception of counseling the transgender person should be responsible for their costs and not force increase premium costs on other members for what can be a costly personal decision and not medically necessary, actually selective surgery and expensive prescriptions. If you don’t like the sarcasm perhaps you can make it against the law or just continue crying, I really could care less.
I have met quite a few transgender individuals in Vegas over the past 20 years. They all seemed to have some pretty serious psychological issues going on that made it difficult to get along with them. A few I knew never recovered from the childhood rape traumas they suffered. I believe in helping people not contributing to their own demise in the name of political correctness and tolerenance. I will never tolerate sicknesses that are not addressed. Sorry if that offends any of you abusors out there or those who shove problems under the rug.
Any time there's an article about transgender issues, you can always count on some ignorant bigots posting comments like Joe C and Bob Cirelli's. Luckily, that kind of ignorance is becoming less common.
The MGM is the new Geraldo Rivera or Jerry Springer show, now that’s entertainment.
Hi, I'm your dealer Bernice, or is it Bernie???? OMG I'm so confused, I need counseling, and an operation. Oops, the operation didn't solve all my problems. Woe is me.
