If you'd like help trimming your utility bills, help may be on the way.

The federal government on Tuesday announced that it awarded $7 million grant under the stimulus program to Nevada for weatherization program.

Nevada weatherized 4,000 homes as of July with $37.3 million in federal stimulus funds earlier, according to Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev. That program created 80 jobs in Nevada.

The $7 million in additional money will go to weatherization agencies in Las Vegas. Local grants were part of $120 million in awards nationally.

The federal money will be used to install in-home energy monitors, solar electric systems, solar water heaters, heat pumps and residential wind turbines.

The money will be divided among HELP of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas and weatherization agencies in Reno, Ely and Carson City.

The program is designed to reduce heating and cooling expenses for houses.

"As a result of funds from the (stimulus) act, thousands of Nevadans are playing less for their energy bills at a time when saving every dollar counts," Titus said in a statement.

Another Nevada official agreed.

"These projects have created jobs for the construction workers and engineers who work to upgrade and install the instruments of energy efficiency," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said in a statement.

According to a statement from the Department of Energy, the Weatherization Assistance Program is now weatherizing approximately 25,000 homes in the U.S. per month. In June, states reported that nearly 31,800 homes were weatherized with Recovery Act funding -- the most ever in a month. This summer alone, more than 80,000 homes will be weatherized across the country.

It seems to me that there is much in the way of misguided hate words toward Senator Reid and the the funds he has provided for weatherization. Hello people with you heads in the sand like an ostrich. This money helps many and provides jobs. You, who are so oppposed to everything the Government does, seem to forget what you have and will continue to receive from the very same government. No once have I heard anything positive from your childlike ranting in the way of solving the the economy and creation of jobs. And, certainly you have no idea of international problems that also impact our Nation. I suspect that is because you have no knowledge of how to address the problmes facing our Nation. We have serious problems in this Nation and your childish , hateful rantings do no one any good. If you do nothing else, try reading the preamble of the constitution.

they spent 37.3 million tax dollars to save thousands of dollars and because it was a successful program they are going to spend 7 million more.

Yes mr green we all want to destroy the world and take government money on the down low. Now only democrats can save us. Great argument.

$9,325.00 per house. The government does not create jobs. It redistributes wealth taken from those of us who actually do work.

I am sick of all these giveaways.

Where are all the supposed "shovel ready jobs" America was promised???? Another Obama lie.

If the commenters below had their way, we wouldn't have to worry about future generations at all because we would be destroying everything we have on this planet. Thank you, Senator Reid, for your commitment to Nevada and the environment. Of course, anyone who's critical would gladly take the money because, gee, hypocrisy is a habit with them.

these programs are crap, costly, wasteful and remind me of Obama saying Americans need to check the air in their tires to save energy

Wow! Free money! And jobs too! "Created or saved" out of thin air. And nobody paid for this mini-boondoggles!

I can already feel the "putting America to work" momentum building! And all because of Uncle Harry and his friends borrowing trillions from the future generation to pay for today's greenie agenda. Thanks Harry!
