LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
Nevada has the nation's third-best tax climate for businesses, according to a study released Thursday.
In its 2012 State Business Tax Climate Index, the Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan tax research group based in Washington, D.C., gave the Silver State the nod for its lack of corporate and personal income taxes.
However, the report also noted that Nevada has the eighth-highest sales taxes and eighth-highest workers' compensation levies in the nation. Nevada ranked No. 16 for its property taxes.
Only Wyoming and South Dakota ranked ahead of Nevada in the overall ratings. Alaska and Florida rounded out the top five.
California came in at No. 48, while New Jersey, which has higher-than-average income taxes, sales taxes and property taxes, ranked last.
Nevada moved up a spot from 2011, when it ranked No. 4.
"The lesson is simple: A state that raises sufficient revenue without one of the major taxes will, all things being equal, have an advantage over those states that levy every tax in the state tax collector's arsenal," the foundation said in a statement.

If Low Taxes are so Fabulous (as they've been for decades) why is "The Tax Foundation" unable to place more jobs in Nevada?
The "Tax Foundation" is a Conservative Right Wing Organization of the 1% fighting for the 1%. Something that this Right-Wing Newspaper that just about has to give away their subsciptions will NEVER tell its readers.
Sound like Michael has been reduced to buying Velveeta instead of the high priced spread to accompany his Boones Farm!
I am always bewildered as to what city your "Things are looking up" stories are based on as they are certainly not based on Las Vegas. This city is dying right before our very eyes. The employment rate hovers somewhere in the 18-22% throughout the city, even if your fortunate enough to even obtain work, it usually has a sub-standard paycheck attached to it because the employers know they can get away with treating working men and women like crap as there is no shortage of people who are one step away from homelessness. Then the bureaucrats shout out to anyone who will listen that the unemployment rates are dropping - when we all know the only thing dropping is the amount of people who are eligible for unemployment insurance because their benefits have run out. But feel free to continue patting each other on the back and telling each other that your doing a stand up job, as you bleed the cities coffers dry with your ridiculous expenditures for "needed" new office buildings, funding useless civic programs that help no-one, paying fire, police, and city officials RECORD SETTING wages. If you honestly think for a second that the general public believes your endless diatribe of how you are acting in the best interests of the community when tax dollars are being whisked away without any accountability, when every other week another "City Official" gets caught taking bribes or funneling money to places unknown then you are actually starting to believe your own lies.
