The Las Vegas Review Journal on Monday named veteran journalist James G. Wright as business editor.
Wright also will oversee the Las Vegas Business Press, a weekly business-to-business magazine produced by the Review-Journal staff.
Review-Journal Editor Michael Hengel announced the appointment.
"Jim's skill and experience will serve our readers well," Hengel said. "We want to be the first place that readers turn to for business news about Southern Nevada, particularly our coverage of gaming and tourism. I am excited about what Jim brings to the position."
Publisher Bob Brown said the Review-Journal is committed to emphasizing local news in the business section. "In business, our franchise is local. We want to be the best we can be at covering the people who make a difference and the issues that matter most."
Before joining the Review-Journal as an assistant city editor in July 2010, Wright, 53, was editor of the Twin Falls, Idaho, Times-News; an international media management consultant in North Africa; assistant managing editor of the Albany (N.Y.) Times Union; assistant metro editor of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer; and business editor of the Colorado Springs Gazette.
An Oregon native, Wright received a degree in journalism from the University of Idaho in 1980 and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Colorado in 1990. He and his wife, Shari, have two adult children.

Please give us someone who is willing to not let the power brokers of this city spin every story written in the RJ. The Las Vegas Sun and KLAS has uncovered more business under cover stories in the past 12 months than the RJ has in 4 years. I wish you well and hope that we can see hard work put into uncovering issues that will make this a better community.
I hope Jim can give us the straight scoop without the usual left wing liberal bias. I hope he's a straight shooter. Ooops! Did I use that threatening word? I'm sorry!
When on earth will we see Wayne Allyn "I never saw Obama at Columbia" Root again?
Seems like a perfect fit for the LVRJ gaming section.
