Vintage motorcycle auction brings more than $4.1 million in winning bids

The vintage motorcycle auction held at the Rio Jan. 12-14 brought in more than $4.1 million in winning bids, the auction company reported Tuesday.
The top seller was a 1910 Flying Merkel restored in the company's bright orange color that fetched $86,800, according to Dallas-based Auctions America by RM.
A high-quality 1926 Cleveland Fowler sold for $76,160. Las Vegas magician Criss Angel watched from the lectern as his "Mindfreak" custom chopper went for $19,040.
Auctions America reported that 82 percent of nearly 500 motorcycles on the auction block were sold. One that did not sell was an 1894 Roper that was predicted to set the record for a motorcycle sold at auction.
Bidders represented 35 states and 10 countries, including Germany, the United Arab Emirates and Australia.
