Vincent Miller of Goodwill Career Connections greets job seekers with a gift during their visit to Harrah's Entertainment's 2010 Career & Resource Fair held Wednesday at the Rio . Harrah's held the fair to fill more than 500 positions in its local casinos, which include the Rio, Caesars Palace, Paris Las Vegas and Bally's. The company needs to fill 125 full-time positions and 375 temporary, on-call or part-time positions; it received 5,000 applications during the event. The hiring comes amid record unemployment of 13.9 percent in Las Vegas, where nearly 140,000 people lack work. Job seekers attending the fair also received free help preparing income-tax returns and health screenings through the AARP/Walgreen's Wellness Tour Bus. The United Way of Southern Nevada and Goodwill of Southern Nevada helped sponsor the event. » Buy this photo

I've been out of work for 5 months. Part-time work seems not available. I see Harrahs hired 200. But, they are new. What about the workers Harrahs laid-off? It seems like only the young are hired. What happens to 50-65 working class? we are too young for social security and seems too old for the "new look" of Vegas. What happens to us. I've been here 25yrs & still own my home for 8yrs. I did not coltavate the art of "Kissing ..." now I suffer and I am not alone. How do we fit the new Vegas or are we cast aside and homeless meant to be invisable. And I mean all races not just white, or black, or hispanic. Where do we go with our life maturity and skills?
And has Vegas learned this hard lesson? Outsiders are buying property and renting only. Water troubles are still with us. A builder wants to house Blue Diamond area with "high cost housing." I dowbt it.
I love my home. I don't want to loose it. I want to stay. I have no where else to go. Where and how do I fit with the new Las Vegas?
