‘Click it or Ticket’ to start in Las Vegas Valley

Nevada drivers should plan to buckle-up as local law enforcement agencies join forces to launch the latest version of “Click it or Ticket.

Between Thursday and Dec. 2, Nevada’s “Joining Forces” multi-county law enforcement program will launch a campaign to find Nevada motorists who are not wearing seat belts. Seat belt use is not usually a primary offense in Nevada.

More than 20 agencies will take part in the launch, including Nevada Highway Partrol and the Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas police departments.

“Officers are well trained and experienced in detecting drivers who try to ‘fake it’ or slyly slip on their seat belts upon being pulled over,” a press release from the Nevada Department of Public Safety said.

The average fine for not wearing a seat belt is $70.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that seat belts saved nearly 12,000 lives in America in 2011. The education effort is part of a nationwide promotion of seat belt use.

A driver without a seat belt is 75 percent more likely to be killed in a rollover crash and four-times more likely to be killed in a crash if ejected from the vehicle, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.
