WHEN ELVIS ROAMED VEGAS

Elvis Presley didn't put Las Vegas on the map, but he did insert the everlasting "Viva" in front of it. So, to celebrate what would have been his 73rd birthday, we're giving Elvis a Vegas map of his own.

Click on our interactive map to find the King's favorite places to hold court during his valley sojourns. Elvis' spirit never left these buildings, although many of them have since left us.

Sonya wrote on February 23, 2008 08:21 AM: Elvis loved that Las Vegas stayed up all night like he did - he had found his city!

But later he saw the dark side of the city through "men" the Colonel used for control, and was not happy with it.

Colonel gambled away nearly $100 million, and used Elvis to cover his debts, working him like a dog even when he became very ill. Rumor has it that Colonel used unscrupulous means to get Elvis addicted on higher meds in the mid 70's, so he could "control the boy" better. No thought was taken to his health conditions or care... only that he perform.

To give you an idea about how the Colonel controlled him, Elvis once said to a Las Vegas audience "'They' could keep me in that box for 23 hours if they always let me out on the 24th hour to be with you.'"

Such is the downfall of the greatest entertainer the world has ever known, and one of the very kindest, most thoughtful people, too.

A little more respect for your and Joe's notoriously callous word choices here would be appreciated, but I did appreciate finding out where Elvis roamed.

There were no masses of illegals clogging the streets with thier uninsured cars. No masses of illegals in line at the culinary union for jobs "Americans won't do" there were no illegals overcrowding the school district, there were no illegals spewing thousands of tons of greehouse gasses, there were only a few migrint workers picking our fruit...good times
