PHOTOS: Spreading the Word

Comedian and magician Mac King promotes reading the old-fashioned way: one book at a time. During the month of March he conducts a book drive in support of the literacy program Spread the Word Nevada: Kids to Kids. He also presents a March Reading Soiree at Sammy's Woodfired Pizza restaurants, which also collect books for the drive. Above, King turns a piece of carrot into a goldfish with the help of Hailey Whalen, 8.

Allyson Beard, 9, admires the magic goldfish. King's next soiree will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the restaurant at 7160 N. Durango Drive.
