WORKSHOP

Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto, Nevada State Treasurer Kate Marshall and U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., have teamed with Hope Now Alliance and NeighborWorks to host a free foreclosure prevention workshop. Classes will meet from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Attendees can meet with lenders and counselors and attend information sessions (775-684-7109).

  • TOASTMASTERS

    Valley Voices & Vices Toastmasters Club meets at 7:30 a.m. Fridays at Nevada Federal Credit Union, 2645 S. Mojave Road, Suite C (454-8266).

    High Noon Lectern Toastmasters Club meets at noon Fridays at Denny's, 3081 S. Maryland Parkway (798-3700).

    POKER RUN

    Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youths will host a poker run Saturday to benefit foster children. The first motorcycles will leave Harley-Davidson, 2605 S. Eastern Ave., at 10:30 a.m., with the last bike returning by 3 p.m. to Bilbo's Bar & Grill, 8699 W. Charleston Blvd. The event is open to all bikers and riders. The cost is $25 for the biker and $20 for the passenger. Registration is required (768-4781).

    FIESTA FILIPINO

    Fiesta Filipino, a Philippine Independence Day celebration, will take place from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Las Vegas Sports Center, 121 E. Sunset Road. The event will feature entertainment, food and beverages, health and wellness programs, cultural dances and games. Admission is free (858-8771, 348-9286).

    FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCHERS

    The Nevada African American Genealogy Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Ron Hughes, president of the Clark County Genealogy Society, will speak about news groups and message boards for the genealogist (889-4087).

    PINOCHLE CLUB

    The Las Vegas Pinochle Club meets at 5 p.m. Saturdays at Boulder Cascade Clubhouse. The group is open to new members (338-5770).

    FUNDRAISERS

    Golden Rainbow's 22nd annual "Ribbon of Life" show will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at LeTheatre des Arts at Paris Las Vegas, 3655 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The event will feature more than 300 performers from the casts of many Strip shows. Tickets are $35, $50, $100 and $200. Proceeds will benefit those affected by HIV/AIDS (384-2899).

    Family and Child Treatment of Southern Nevada will host its 10th annual "For a Child's Tomorrow" at 9 p.m. Saturday at Chameleon Studios, 9340 Hinson St. The event will include live entertainment, celebrity guest appearances, a drawing and silent auction. The cost is $20. Proceeds will benefit children, families and adults affected by the traumas of abuse, neglect and violence (258-5855).

    FAMILY CLASSES

    University Medical Center's Family Resource Center offers many classes throughout the month at 1120 Shadow Lane. Appointments are required (383-2229).

    SINGLE PARENTS

    A new social networking group for single parents in Las Vegas and Henderson is being formed that will offer family-friendly activities (436-5204).
