LENNY'S LAS VEGAS: ROKin' new club to join Vegas scene

New twist on poker at Coast casinos; Vinnie shifts sites

ROKin’ New Club: Get ready for yet another nightclub in Las Vegas. ROK Vegas at New York-New York will open its doors Labor Day weekend with a special performance by pop-rock sensation Katy Perry. Perry will rock the club with her sultry single, “I Kissed a Girl” when she performs live at ROK 0n Saturday, Aug. 30.

ROK’s opening will bring two firsts to the local nightlife scene. ROK will feature the first-ever 360-degree video screen in a Las Vegas nightclub. From every angle, guests will be surrounded by concert footage, live club feeds, lasers and animation. ROK’s resident DJ will spin rock mash-ups choreographed in time with video imagery displayed above.

  • ROK also will introduce the advent of half-bottle service to the VIP experience. In addition to full-bottle service, you will have the option of selecting from several premium brands in a half-bottle size. ROK will open to the public on Friday, Aug. 29, with hours of operation Wednesday-Sunday; doors open at 10 p.m.

RA Extends Happy Hour: If you like sushi and enjoy washing them down with a cocktail, RA Sushi Bar at the Fashion Show Mall may be the place for you. The restaurant has introduced a new happy hour. Normally, its happy hour ran Monday thru Friday, but the good folks at RA decided to extend it thru Saturday and start it an hour earlier.

Food and drink specials will now be offered from 3 to 7 p.m. with sushi and appetizers on the happy hour menu with reduced to half-off the regular menu prices. Drink specials will range from $1 to $5 and will include beer, sake and a wide variety of specialty cocktails.

Along with its Japanese fusion cuisine and fresh sushi sliced to order, resident DJs spin every night of the week and host regular themed events. RA’s patio faces the Strip so you can spend time sipping sake and people watching. What’s more fun than getting together with friends and mocking people you don’t know?

New Poker Promo: Coast Casinos poker rooms are now hosting the Fortune Flop Texas Hold’em Progressive where the winner gets 40 percent of the jackpot starting at $50,000. Here’s how it works. Any player dealt a Flopped Royal Flush (any suit) while playing Texas Hold’em at any Coast Casino wins 40 percent of the progressive jackpot up to $100,000. All players playing Texas Hold’em at the time of the winning flop share in that jackpot as prize money is divided among all players at each of the four Coast Casinos.

Once the progressive jackpot reaches $100,000, winning hands are added weekly to increase the odds. To give you an example, one Las Vegas resident recently won $30,000 by flopping a royal flush at the Gold Coast. Each of the 180 people playing in a Coast Casino poker room at the time of the winning flop won $250.

Become An Instant Millionaire: The Stratosphere is featuring the “Free Million Strat-O-Spin” promotion from now through Nov. 18. New and existing Ultimate Rewards Club members will have a chance to spin for $1 million or their share of up to $120,000 in prizes during the promotion.

New Ultimate Rewards Club members get one free spin on the “Strat-O-Spin” mega slot machine. Current Ultimate Rewards Club members earning 100 points in tracked slot play in a day are eligible for one spin. There is a limit of one spin per eligible Ultimate Rewards Club member per day during promotion hours (10 a.m. to midnight).

Free Tickets, Anyone?: Primm Valley Casino Resorts is offering 500 free tickets to every concert until the end of the year. To sign up and for the concert sked, visit www.primmconcerts.com.

New Home For Vinnie: Comedian and celebrity roaster Vinnie Favorito has switched venues, moving next door to the Flamingo from his digs at O’Shea’s. He now performs inside the 220-seat Bugsy’s Cabaret nightly at 8 p.m. Tickets are $49.95 and $39.95 (plus tax and fees).

Favorito’s blend of stand-up comedy, racy wit and audience banter is the perfect fit with the theater’s adult-centric programming, which is also home to the Strip’s raciest topless show, "X Burlesque." The talented comedian is one of the longer lasting entertainers on the Strip, having performed there for more than 10 years. If you haven’t seen him, put his show on your list of “must-sees” next time you’re in town. It’s not for everybody, but if you like Don Rickles, you’ll love Vinnie.

Show Times Too Early: Got an email the other day from J. Siebert of Chicago, who writes: “Dear Lenny, I read your column each week and look forward to finding out things I don’t find in other columns or sites about what’s going on in Las Vegas, as most sites concentrate only on the big shows on the Strip.

“The reason I’m writing, however, is to complain about the early starting times of the shows. Years ago the hotels offered two shows a night, most featured headliners who rotated on a regular basis, and one of the two shows was a dinner show.

“Today, you have to either eat very early to catch a show, or very late, when you come out. Neither is very appealing. I hope the hotels will reconsider and think about the convenience of the people who pay to go to these shows.”

Good luck and I'll see you on the Strip. And don't forget to check out eNeon each Wednesday by subscribing (free of charge) to the Review-Journal's weekly newsletter.
