Entertainers Siegfried & Roy were recipients of the Vivitus Laurel Award during the 14th annual Notte di Carnevale gala of the Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow Oct. 15 at Caesars Palace.
The award is modeled on the ancient Greeks and Romans, who honored those who had given of their talents to benefit their community. Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn were honored for their generosity and philanthropy. In addition to the time and resources they have devoted to Las Vegas charities, the duo has assisted an orphanage in Romania and a school in Cape Town, South Africa.
A video of the pair's 45 years in Las Vegas was shown.
The evening began with a silent auction and cocktail reception offering elaborate buffets of hors d'oeuvres and specialty cocktails. Chef Chris Hanmer and Carlos Enriquez created the smoking dessert.
Guests included Vivian and Bill Benter, Sally and Richard Jost, Juanita and David Wasserman, Joel Bergman, Irais and Bob Kolesar, Jewel Brooks and Joe Hollis, Mary and Elliott Eisnner, Joanne Blystone, Andrew Blumen, Nancy and Jack Weinstein, Kimberly and Brad Friedmutter, Linda and Billy McCoy, Greg Ihde, Susan Sullivan, Vera Goulet and Denny Weddle.
Before dinner was served, foundation Chairwoman Janet Frasier Blumen spoke about the organization's mission of empowering motivated unemployed Nevadans through mentoring, training and education to become gainfully employed. In the past three years, 1,161 FIT clients became employed.
The gala chair was Joyce Sherman and Sandy Peltyn chaired the silent auction.
