Drink specials, no cover draw pool lovers to Green Valley Ranch's pond

Value is in vogue this summer.
Events, cheap food, free booze and prizes will be heavily featured during this pool season at Green Valley Ranch's Pond, says Marisa Scarpulla, the hotel's food and beverage director. They're doing something right; attendance is up over the same time last year, she adds.
There's never a cover at the Pond, Scarpulla says. On Tuesdays, the pool's industry day, women drink free margaritas from noon to 2 p.m. while Sky vodka, Bacardi and Camarena tequila bottle service costs $75.
Drink specials are offered almost daily, thanks to partnerships between the hotel and several liquor companies, Scarpulla says. Bacardi is introducing two new flavors, so through July, the Pond will offer $6 cocktails made with those rums. Models who work for Bacardi will sometimes hand out free samples. "We always do fun stuff like this because guests benefit by getting to sample drinks for free and they get discounts, too," she says.
From 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Haleamano will play live reggae music at the Pond. Admission is for those 21 and older, and it's free. Drinks will cost $5.
"We did this last year, and it did so well, we decided to do it again this year," Scarpulla says.
Sundays turn into a Brazilian pool party complete with Brazilian rum, $6 Brazilian drink specials and $40 pitchers. A Brazilian grill is set up at the main pool where guests can get three skewers of Brazilian meats and salads for $10. A bikini contest is held at 3 p.m. each week with the winner receiving prizes. At the final bikini contest, scheduled for Labor Day weekend, the winner will receive a $500 American Express gift card, a free trip to Miami and three months of free waxing service.
The Pond is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at Green Valley Ranch, 2300 Paseo Verde Parkway. Cabanas are available to rent for $200; daybeds cost $125. Reservations can be made by calling 617-7744.
