When you're the new kid on the block, it's only natural to want to make a killer impression.

Michael Crandall is confident that Gossip -- The Pool at Rumor and the slate of events the venue has planned for its first full year of operation have what it takes to appeal to sun-loving partygoers seeking something just a little bit different.

Gossip opened last July at Rumor Boutique Hotel, 455 E. Harmon Ave. Both the hotel and Gossip are designed with an eye toward Rumor's conception as, Crandall says, "one of the only true boutique hotels in Las Vegas."

Crandall, director of business affairs for The Siegel Group, says Gossip already is "getting a really good response. Everybody who goes there absolutely loves it and are just blown away."

The pool's palm trees and cozy feel create a "Palm Springs meets Miami vibe with, still, a Vegas twist," he says.

Gossip includes a main pool, a wet deck and a spa. The layout is designed to offer those seeking a bit of quiet the ability to find it, while allowing those searching for the party to find it, too.

Guests may relax on chaise lounges or select from among five cabanas (prices start at a $500 food and drink minimum on weekends) or eight day beds (starting at a $200 food and drink minimum on weekends). However, Crandall says discounts easily are had during the week.

DJs spin daily, and "we have a different (music) experience every day of the week, based on the DJ," Crandall says. "Some days it's house, some days it's hip-hop, some days it's a mix."

But, Crandall says, the ambiance is "really loungey," and those who wish to relax with a good book -- or even a bit of conversation -- won't find themselves at odds with the party.

Food offerings are available at the pool via Rumor's restaurant. The drink menu includes a roster of signature cocktails for $10 each or $55 for 64-ounce pitchers, and bottle service begins at $200.

Events are scheduled daily. Locals get in free every day of the week except for "Sunkissed Sunday," when they pay $10 and out-of-towners pay $20. However, those who dine at the hotel's Sunday brunch (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) receive free entry.

Gossip -- The Pool at Rumor is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. For information, call the Rumor front desk at 369-5400. For cabana or day bed reservations, call 743-2657.
