Ready for a winter swim on Saturday?
Brave souls can challenge the cold weather at the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department's inaugural Polar Bear Plunge.
From 1 to 4 p.m. at the Whitney Ranch Aquatic Complex, 1575 Galleria Drive, participants can ride down the slides at the outdoor activity pool and then warm up with hot winter treats. Other activities include games, a bounce house, raffles and concessions.
Admission is $5, including observers. Advance registration is recommended and can be made at cityofhenderson.com/parks.
Each participant will receive a commemorative pin and the first 100 will be given goodie bags. The event is not recommended for people with heart conditions or high blood pressure.
Participants will take the plunge by age groups: 4-12 years, 13-19 years, and ages 20 and older. Call 267-5870 for further details.

This event is not to be confused with the Plunge benefiting Special Olympics Nevada athletes on Sat Feb 18th at the M Resort. Register for the benefit at iPolarPlungeNV.com and help Special Olympics Nevada continue to give more than 3,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to compete in sports for free.
With all due respect to the fine people of Henderson, this event is not a "Polar Bear Plunge", not in Henderson in 50 degree weather. If you want a Polar Bear Plunge, you need to come to Milwaukee on New Year's day when the air is maybe 15 degrees and the water around 34. Bring a blanket!
