  • Cast: Clive Owen, Nicholas McAnulty, George MacKay, Laura Fraser, Emma Booth

    Director: Scott Hicks

The story: A divorced sportswriter struggles to deal with single parenthood when tragedy strikes.

The buzz: The "O" word -- Oscar, of course -- has surfaced more than once in connection with this fact-based drama, which came out of September's Toronto film festival with momentum, largely because of Owen's acclaimed portrayal. But Owen is not the only boy who's back when it comes to awards: This movie also marks a return to form for Hicks, who directed Geoffrey Rush to an Oscar in 1996's "Shine."
