LV police officer shoots at two in Strip vehicle stop

Exchange of gunfire was reported near MGM Grand

A Las Vegas police officer shot toward two men in a car he had stopped in front of the Harley-Davidson Cafe on the Strip at Harmon Avenue early Sunday, police said.

Neither of the men was wounded in the shooting.

The incident started about 12:45 a.m. when witnesses reported people in two vehicles shooting at each other in the northbound lane of Las Vegas Boulevard South near the MGM Grand, which is at Tropicana Avenue about a half-mile south of where the officer fired at the car, said Lt. Lew Roberts of the Las Vegas police's homicide unit.

Police in the area found one of the vehicles believed to be involved, a black Daewoo sedan, and stopped it at the Strip and Harmon.

  • When one of the men inside made a suspicious move toward the back seat, an officer fired toward the car, Roberts said.

Police found a shotgun and a spent shell casing inside the vehicle, he said.

Officers arrested both men. Both are Las Vegas residents. One is expected to face multiple charges, including being a felon in possession of a gun and firing a gun from a vehicle, police said. The status of the other man wasn't known Sunday.

As of Sunday evening, police hadn't found anyone who was shot in the reported exchange of gunfire in front of the MGM Grand.

The officer who fired the shots at the Daewoo was placed on paid leave pending the investigation into the incident.

I don't blame the courts because we can only hold so many people. These losers probably have committed other violent crimes and have never been held accountable for their actions. Too bad the cop did'nt take them out. It's a hard decision to make to shoot s car on the strip when the cop has to be accountable for every round he discharges. If this type of nonsense keeps occurring the state is going to feel it in the pocketbook. Tourist are going to head to other destinations if they don't feel safe on the strip.

Yeah...we all know that ONLY blacks or people of color rather, own guns and act out in violence. I think the "alleged" killer in Wisconsin was a person of color...I'm guessing he could have been albino maybe because all pictures and descriptions of him had no pigmentation. It's 2007...
