NORM: Hunter Tylo's son drowns in pool

The drowning of their 19-year-old son has left soap stars Hunter and Michael Tylo coping with yet another tragedy.

Michael "Mickey" Tylo Jr., the couple's first child, was found dead in a swimming pool late Thursday at his mother's house in Henderson.

  • His father, Michael Tylo, assistant professor of film and theater at UNLV, confirmed Friday that the accident involved an epileptic seizure.

A daughter, Katya, 9, was diagnosed with a form of eye cancer not long after she was born. She lost an eye to retinoblastoma. Her mother started the charity Hunter's Chosen Child to bring attention to the disease.

Hunter Tylo met her future husband on the set of "All My Children" and played his love interest. The couple married in 1987.

She starred in "The Bold and the Beautiful" in the early 1990s before leaving to join the cast of "Melrose Place" in 1996. She was fired by producer Aaron Spelling after becoming pregnant and won a judgment worth about $5 million from him.

She returned to "The Bold and the Beautiful" about two years ago. She and Tylo split about that time.

    FACING A ROCKY ROAD

Jay Kornegay's job as executive director of the race and sports book at the Las Vegas Hilton requires keeping emotion out of the equation.

But he'll confess to having a soft spot in his heart for his home state team, the Colorado Rockies. Kornegay grew up in the Denver area and attended Colorado State University.

The World Series-bound Rockies (four words I thought I'd never write, along with "I gave up chocolate") have become one of the biggest sports stories of the year with their improbable run of 21 wins in 22 games, including a record-tying 7-0 post-season mark.

I asked Kornegay for the odds on the Rockies staying perfect with a 4-0 Series sweep.

"Our projected number is 15-1, depending on who they face, unlike the 300-1 some books have," he said.

"We opened them at 100-1 to win the Series, and during the course of summer they were as high as 300-1 around the time they were nine games under .500, and, yes, there are a handful of (300-1) tickets out on them."

Now they are 7-5, and the Hilton just took a very large wager on the Rockies at that number, he said.

The Hilton has the Cleveland Indians also at 7-5, with the Boston Red Sox the third choice at 14-5.

Teri wrote on October 25, 2007 12:04 PM: I never knew Michael, but my daughter was a freshman last year and he was in her art class. She came home with stories every day about him, how funny he was , how crazy he was. He treated her like an equal and always made her laugh. He was one part of helping my daughter get through her freshman year, a part she looked forward to seeing everyday. I never knew his parents were who they were. He never made that a big deal.
My family sends our deepest sympathies to his family, girlfriend, and friends. I cant even imagine the loss they must be feeling.
And to those who have only judgement type comments to send to the family, Im sorry you are where your at in life. Whatever the case no one has the authority to judge, besdies it takes too much time and energy. I hope you realize that before you become your own next venomous victim. Take a clue you never know when your time may be taken all too soon, maybe "God" is jealous because Mike made people laugh and all "God "can do is put people down.
May the True God, bless and keep all those invovled at this time of loss!

Bethany wrote on October 20, 2007 05:23 AM: I am absolutely heartbroken over the death of Hunter and Michael Tylo's son. I lost a child in 1982 and I can honestly say it has been the worse loss I have ever experienced. My heart felt sympathy goes out to them and their other three children. Take care of each other now in this trying time. And believe it or not in passing time, things about their son will change. The pain will be replaced with the memories of his life and one day you will find out the pain has lessen a little. I realize it has been 25 years since Benjamin died so I have had a lot of time to think about his 4 years on earth. But in the years since his death I went from disbelief to acceptance and about 10 steps in between of dealing with his loss. I hope they find peace soon over the loss of their son.
