County passes limit of four garage sales every six months

Some Clark County residents set their alarms to be the first to hit neighborhood garage sales. Some pick up their phone and call their commissioner to complain about them.

Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly said he is most familiar with the latter. That is why he sponsored a new ordinance that reduces the number of garage sales a resident can host every six months from six to four.

  • "Once size does not fit all," Weekly told two residents who appeared at Tuesday's meeting to oppose the ordinance. "Lots of residents have turned these garage sales into personal businesses."

Commissioners agreed with Weekly and voted 6-0 to pass the new law. Tom Collins was absent for the vote.

Glenn Campbell, the publisher of a flier called Family Court Chronicles, complained that some residents might need extra money and rely on garage sales for some quick cash. He said others who are moving might need more than two weekends to get rid of their belongings.

"Las Vegas is a city with world-class entertaining, world-class gaming and world-class garage sales," said Campbell, whose comments generated little concern but a few giggles from commissioners.

"Leave the power to the people to have garage sales."

It's a freakin garage sale. Why can't people just be neighborly to each other.

Government intrusion onto and into the private property and lives is never a good thing. II think mr weekly would fit into the washington political scene perfectly I mean look he just rolls over and gives into the squeaky wheels ( the lobbiest phone calling facist pigs) because he dislikes useing his phone. Obviously had Mr.weekly used the phone and done a small poll of the thoughts of the people I think he would have found out that we like yard sales. not everyone can afford to buy retail in todays economy and besides the purchase of post consumer goods is a goo thing for the environment. Mow I'm starting to think that this guy is definatly not affiliated with the green party in any form.

You have got to be kidding me???? Do these City Council people have nothing else to do? Don't they have some corrupt commissioner they have to deal with or something like that. Are there not more pressing life-altering issues before them. I guess not, because they are too busy passing ordinances barring people from wanting to sell their OWN stuff. GET A LIFE!!!

And as far as Mr. Weekly's above comments about garage sales being used for personal business....your point is....??? Maybe they're having that garage sale so they can cover the property taxes, sales taxes, and all the other taxes that YOU and your cronies are charging us to pay for your pet projects and unlimited spending.

GET YOUR OWN LIFE AND QUIT TRYING TO RUN OURS!!!!
