WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Who needs to be tested? How do I get tested?

All people who have undergone treatment or a procedure at the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada between March 2004 and Jan. 11, 2008, should call their primary care physician about getting a blood test for HIV and hepatitis B and C. Those who do not have a primary care physician can call the Southern Nevada Health District for a list of health care providers. Some of the providers offer payments on a sliding scale.

  • Who will pay for the tests? When can I get results?

People must pay for their own testing. Results generally are available within 24 hours to one week, depending on the clinic performing the test.

Is exposure limited to hepatitis B and C and HIV? Are there other blood-borne diseases that might be involved?

The Southern Nevada Health District's notification is specifically for hepatitis B and C and HIV.

How can I prevent spreading hepatitis?

If you are one of the patients at risk, then do not share personal care items that might have blood on them, such as razors and toothbrushes, and do not donate blood, organs or tissue. Hepatitis can be spread by sex, and use of latex condoms is advised.

Where do I go to get more information?

Call the Southern Nevada Health District's hot line at 759-4636 or visit its Web site at www.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/outbreaks/index.htm.

Las Vegas isn't what it was 30 years ago. Las Vegas is a city not an amuzement place for adults anymore. We are a city of over a million people. Are Health Care is still thirty years behind. I'm not a raceis, but every Dr I have seen in the last 3 years is from India or some other third world country, why is that? I wonder if their involved in trading body part to.

Some have legal state license based on license from other states; the out-of-state license was acquired by transferring phony transcripts from foreign 'medical schools' to the U.S. through a 'credentials evaluation' business; evaluated fake credentials are then used by phony 'doctors' to acquire a state license. (example: phony transcripts evaluated by New York State Board of Regents, New York medical education/training credit given to fake doctor....Other fake doctors come from many parts of the world, not only India. BEWARE!

(Names and addresses of "doctors" who are responsible would be nice, too.)

They knew this before my procedures yet they commited me to a lifetime of guilt knowing that I unwittingly made people sick. I'm almost done with the treatment which is horrific to say the least. I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis and have had to stop my treatment for that until I finish with Hep C. meds. A lawyer can't give me back the sleep I've lost or repair the damage done to my joints not to mention my soul. For any whom have been infected by me I am so terribly sorry and pray your forgiveness of me.

Little did I know that I was in for the surprise of my life. Yet, today, I can still hear the words echoing out of the doctor's mouth. "Steve, You have cancer of the throat, and 8 jellybean sized cancerous tumors in your lymph nodes in your neck" cut and dry. Just Like THAT he uttered these words:

You have less then a year to live.

That is when the tears started to flow and the reality set in that I have CANCER!

Bottom Line, I miraculously ended up beating the cancer and NOW HAVE TO FREAKIN DEAL WITH HAVING POSSIBLE HIV or HEPATITUS??????

ALL THESE PEOPLE INVOLVED SHOULD BE IMPRISONED FOR LIFE!

Aquasign wrote on March 05, 2008 07:34 AM: How could this happen and for so long?! Are there no morals, no conscience, no empathy for our fellow man left in this world? Apparently not.. ALL who worked for these doctors are culpable and should pay dearly. To put so many lives at risk is an abomination. I am totally disgusted and will be watching to see if these people all go to jail for many, many years!

GREED is the only reason this happened. The lawyers who are jumping on the bandwagon advertising their brains out on TV are also greedy. A class action law suit will benefit no one except the lawyers. Those who ARE infected will need to be taken care of medically, financially, and spiritually. As for the charges to be filed will we have to wait until one of the 40,000 + dies before they can be charged with MURDER?

Sally wrote on March 03, 2008 11:53 AM: I, too, want to add my name to Kathleen's as having been treated at the Desert Shadow Endoscopy Center in November of 2006. If this center is indeed linked to the Endoscopy Center in Shadow Lane, either by common practices, policies, doctors, and staff, I want to know about this and insist that the Health District investigate immediately. I plan to contact my doctor and get a referral to be tested.

ART wrote on March 02, 2008 07:38 PM: If this Doctor's Group uses unsafe procedures at one facility to save money, we don't have to be rocket scientists to know they are doing the same thing at all their facilities.

Why hasn't the Southern Nevada Health District shut down all their centers ?

And why doesn't the SNHD make this Medical Group cover the cost for all its patients that had any procedure
requiring injections at any of its centers to get proper testing ?

A few greedy doctors placed thousands of trusting patients in jeopardy, well
its time for them to pay for their greed.

    Criminal procedures should be initiated
against all involved - sounds like Voluntary Manslaughter, who knows how many may die from this fiasco.
