Dr. Dipak Desai, the owner of an ambulatory surgical center under fire for unsafe medical practices, agreed late Friday to stop practicing medicine, the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners said.

  • Desai, majority owner of the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada, made the decision voluntarily at the board's request "until the board's investigation into the operations and allegations concerning the Center has been completed," a board news release stated.

The Shadow Lane facility became the focal point of a massive health alert when health officials found clinic staffers reused syringes and vials containing anesthesia medication. Six center patients contracted hepatitis C because of the unsafe medical practices, health officials say.

The center is being investigated by federal, state and local agencies on a number of fronts, including a probe into Medicare and Medicaid fraud.

Larry Matheis, executive director of the Nevada State Medical Association, said he believes Desai's action was appropriate.

"That is a good step," he said.

Desai's move came two days after five nurse anesthetists associated with his clinics voluntarily surrendered their licenses at the request of the state nursing board.

In response to a Review-Journal public information request, the board released the names of five nurses who surrendered their licenses on Wednesday.

They are Linda Hubbard, Keith Mathahs, Ralph McDowell, Vincent Mione and Vincent Sagendorf.

Dr. Desai has stepped up and served this community when no one else could or would. These jewishes have persicuted him strictly because of him being a poonjobby. If he was a Heeb like the rest of the hate mongrels that run this scumbag town then he would never be in this mess. I think this whole thing was a set up and smells of Jewishness.

Hang them from the spaghetti bowl over pass. In a real, painful position. Let them die there.

Even that punishment doesn't approach suitable.

desai is NOT a brahmin. he is a gujarati vaishya, or business man caste. he should have stuck to that profession, not medicine.
that guy who defended him, mr. singal, is neither a brahmin nor a doctor. where did your ideas about the caste system come from; they have little to do with this case. and besides hindus in america have a new caste system based on money, not ancestral caste/ profession, which no one cares about.(not to take away from the larger health issue here concerning desai).

We had crappy Vietnamese. Can anybody recommend a good Vietnamese place? The new owners at the one on Decatur don't speak English and the service has really fallen off.

But I digress. Tonight my friend reiterated that virtually nobody at UMC liked Desai. He was one of the least likable. (Did I mention the term "sociopath?").

Anyway, sometimes doctors from India, especially if they are of the Brahman caste (class), especially if they are sociopaths, cannot even relate to ethical behavior. They are gods. They are Brahmans. You and I are doo doo.

So it was funny to read that recent letter to the RJ, apparently written by another Brahman doctor, in defense of Desai.

Essentially, the Desai apologist was all like, "He's a 'tower' of the community. What's the problem?"

Bad cooties, doctor. Real bad. That's the problem. Just being a Brahman with a lot of money to give to politicians doesn't make one a "tower."

If you want to be a Brahman tower, go back to India.

People ask me: if you're so smart, how come you're not rich?

My answer: if your rich, how come you're not smart?

If any of you think that you would have a snowball's chance in hell against insurance companies and big business without the help of trial lawyers you're nuts!

Well Dr. Buzzard was caught doing drugs and his eye clinic is open and running.

In Nevada everything is legal as long as you don't get caught even then a slap on the wrist is the total punishment.

Nevada don't give a damn about the people, only what money it can shake them down for.

It's harder than ever to be a white male and get into medical school. It's called affirmative action and it is rearing it's ugly head.

#2 THANKS TO FREEDOM OF INFORMATION WE CAN OBTAIN THE PROPER INFORMATION NEEDED TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND HAVE JUSTICE.

#3 INFECTION FROM HBV, HCV, OR HIV WILL NOT PREVENT US FROM UNITING AND RIGHTING THIS TRAGEDY, IF WE CHOOSE TO ACT.

#4 NO OTHER NATION WITH CITIZENS SO EMPOWERED AND ABLE AS THE U.S. WOULD STAND FOR THIS. IT WILL BE A NATIONWIDE CRISIS VERY SOON. DO YOU REALLY THINK THE CLINICS IN MIAMI, DETROIT AND SEATTLE ARE ANY BETTER? REALLY DO YOU? WE HAVE THE MEANS TO CORRECT THIS SITUATION QUIT EFFECTIVELY IF WE CHOOSE TO ACT WITH COURAGE INSTEAD OF FEAR AND ANGUISH. WITH GREAT JOY AND PRIDE I WILL HAPPILY MEET MY CREATOR. I ONLY FEAR MEETING HIM AS A COWARD WHO WHINES WITH FEAR. WE HAVE THE ABILITY, WILL WE USE IT?

#5 THERE IS NOTHING STOPPING US. AMERICA HAS BECOME A NATION OF COWARDLY SHEEP AND I AM ASHAMED. MY GRANDFATHER DIED IN WWII, MY FATHER IN VIETNAM, AND I AM ASHAMED OF WHAT THIS AMERICAN TOILET HELL HAS BECOME. THIS IS WORSE THAN MEDICAL FACILITIES IN 3RD WORLD CUBA. I AM ASHAMED. BUT WE CAN UNITE AND AT LEAST BE PROUD AND READY TO EXACT JUSTICE. J-U-S-T-I-C-E! DO NOT BE AFRAID TO SAY IT.

#6 NOTHING IS STOPPING US BUT OURSELVES. 700 SHADOW AND 3196 MARYLAND PARKWAY WERE PROVIDERS FOR GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES, MILITARY, METRO POLICE AND FIRE FIGHTERS. THEY ARE VICITMS OF THIS TRAGEDY. WILL THEY JOIN WITH THIS MOVEMENT OF JUSTICE WITH THE ZEAL THAT THEY PERFORM THEIR JOB FUNCTIONS? I THINK SO, EVEN IF THEY MUST BE SILENT. WE CAN ADMINISTER JUSTICE!
