Details emerge in slaying of girl, 12

Police report: Father talked of seeing God

After admitting he had killed his 12-year-old daughter, William Redman told an emergency medical technician at the bloody scene of the slaying that he had seen God, according to a police report.

Redman, 54, was at the Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center Thursday, recovering from what the report said were self-inflicted wounds to his arms, wrists and neck.

    • If he recovers, Las Vegas police will transfer him to the Clark County Detention Center and recommend that he be charged with murder with a deadly weapon. He is accused of slitting the throat of his daughter, Gloria, on Wednesday at the Road Runner RV Park on Boulder Highway near Flamingo Road, where the family lives.

    Gloria, a sixth-grader at Harney Middle School, had stayed home from school sick on Wednesday, the police report stated. The attack occurred after Redman's wife, Rose, left to go grocery shopping, the report said.

    The report did not indicate whether there had been an argument between Redman and his daughter before or while Rose Redman was shopping.

    The report states that after William Redman slit his daughter's throat with a knife, he told a 911 operator who asked him how his daughter died: "It was the way Jehovah does things."

    He told a police sergeant, "I saw the light. What a trip," the report stated.

    When Rose Redman arrived home and saw her daughter face-down on the floor in a pool of blood, her husband told her the girl had to be dead three days before she could wake up.

    When police arrived at the Redman's trailer, they found William Redman sitting on the front steps, covered in blood, with his arms extended in front of his legs and his hands open, palms forward, the report said.

    A couple who lives at the recreational vehicle park described Gloria as a sweet, well-mannered girl who sometimes would bake cookies with them.

    They described William Redman as a reclusive and unemployed man who enjoyed riding bikes with his children.

    They said the Redmans also have two teenage boys.

It sounds horrible, but the situation sounds like he was molesting her and she either told him she was pregnant or had a boyfriend and he killed her.
