NORM: Pure group hopes for some good PR

Moving quickly to repair its image after an IRS raid, Pure Management Group has hired a high-powered Los Angeles public relations firm that specializes in crisis management.

Sitrick and Company has been retained as "communications advisors" to assist Las Vegas-based Kirvin Doak Communications with the city's biggest nightlife scandal in years, a source confirmed Thursday.

PMG is Sitrick's latest high-profile client on a list that includes billionaire gaming mogul Kirk Kerkorian, talk-show host Rush Limbaugh, party girl Paris Hilton, Oscar winner Halle Berry and supermodel Naomi Campbell.

The headquarters of Pure Management Group, a nightclub and restaurant empire operated by Robert Frey and Steve Davidovici, was raided Feb. 21 by IRS agents, who also paid a visit to the flagship club Pure at Caesars Palace and LAX nightclub at Luxor.

Sitrick also is representing prominent Los Angeles entertainment attorney Terry Christensen, who has been indicted on charges of paying private detective Anthony Pellicano $100,000 to wiretap Kerkorian's wife at the time.

Pellicano was indicted on federal wiretapping charges in 2006, after a massive investigation that rocked Hollywood.

    THE SCENE AND HEARD

Citing an economic downturn, Las Vegas Life magazine announced a reorganization Thursday that will end its monthly publication next month after a 10-year run. The Greenspun Media Group publication will switch to a "Best Of" format after the April issue, Michael Carr, president of Greenspun Media Group, told staffers in an e-mail. "We plan to use the title as the umbrella title in the development of our digital and interactive strategies online," he wrote. Three upper-level employees were laid off, including the director of sales and the art director. The magazine had a circulation of about 40,000. ...

Luxor nightclub Cathouse Loungerie reopens tonight after being closed for almost a month when structural issues forced more than 100 club patrons to evacuate a second-floor lounge. "CatHouse and Luxor management worked closely with MGM MIRAGE engineers and Clark County Building inspectors to address these issues and assure the safety of our guests and employees," all parties said in a statement Thursday.

What a garbage show, filled with no talents & completely uninteresting! Couldn't qualify as a "Hit" if it was run into by a Dump Truck!! This is what qualifies as "celebrity" sightings?!?! PUH-LEEZE!!!

GOD wrote on March 21, 2008 07:19 PM: Pure is purely a joke.
Hey tourists, if you want to be fleeced and not have a good time --- Pure is your place.

Caesars should step up and shut this place down. IT IS CAESARS PALACE'S PROPERTY!? Oh, that's right, Caesars is in bed with Pure.

David wrote on March 21, 2008 04:04 PM: When Pure hires a PR firm to help it clean up its image, what hyey mean is they hired professional liars to make the story less incriminating.

AngryReader wrote on March 21, 2008 01:54 PM: Pure wants decent PR? Try paying your taxes, stop the shakedowns, and try not to get those casinos' gaming licenses revoked for your irresponsible behaviour. Pure... more like Pure dorks!

douglas wrote on March 21, 2008 11:32 AM: if the "investigative media" were honorable, they would ferret out the massive amounts of "tips" and kickbacks, likely un/undertaxed throughout southern nevada. how many schoolbooks would those taxes buy ?

besides the "tips" to get into some venue, or to get ahead of the rest of the contestants, how about the cab driver kickbacks by strip club operators to steer rubes into their joints ? and, are the "tips" to strippers fully declared and taxed ?

while we're at it, how about getting casino dealers a "fair" base wage with some performance [attendance, deportment, customer service] incentives... while adopting the macao style of pay... a fair wage but no more toke boxes ?

steve wynn started to clean up that system when he 86'd the "room captain" tokes needed to get a decent seat in a show room. how is that different than these "tips" required to get into some "exclusive" club ?

james wrote on March 21, 2008 11:27 AM: how can shaking down, skimming, corruption and violence be spun positively...the money trail is to large to hide, and to many people will talk to save themselves...the casinos should have known better, they had to know what was going on, even in leased property...

Mark$ wrote on March 21, 2008 10:50 AM: So, was it just show, and is the whoop-de-doo "big investigation" of PURE by the IRS going to just evaporate. Is it or is it not illegal to take in massive amounts of cash income, in a casino nightclub or anywhere else, and not report it. C'mon Feds, show some teeth, or slink off and confirm what Leona Helmsley said, that "only the little people pay taxes" ..

Insider wrote on March 21, 2008 09:45 AM: Pure is toast. No spin or hype will be able to shake the IRS and FBI investigation of their shakedown and skimming operations!Whe it also comes out that the Casino higer ups got a piece of the "tip" action, watch the rats scurry!

Tom, Burbank wrote on March 21, 2008 09:22 AM: Pure hopes for good PR? They're entire existence is predicated on bad PR. What a joke.

DeeDee Skinner wrote on March 21, 2008 07:33 AM: Let me get this correct, you get in major trouble (as Pure did), you perhaps break the law, and you hire a PR firm.

Then, THAT PR firm is so unskilled and amateur at dealing with something that isn't fluff so they have to hire a "real" PR firm.

    How embarrassing.

Shouldn't the local PR firm go back to school?

Guess they won't be taking out a billboard advertising the fact they are too inexperienced to get the spin job done.

    Absolute joke.

How many more days will they be in business?

Pure sure acted like the big tough guy when they were operation and now look at them. Hiding behind PR firms. Waaaa. Waaaa. Stand up and take your licks.

What Pure needs is a good group of lawyers and get ready for life behind prison bars. How will the PR firms spin that? Vacation?
