Worker finds dead man in drain

Discovery made on Tropicana Avenue near LV Beltway

A dead man with a gunshot wound to his head was found in a storm or sewer drain Monday evening on Tropicana Avenue near the Las Vegas Beltway.

Lt. Lewis Roberts of the Metropolitan Police Department said a worker who was placing barricades on the street first noticed what appeared to be a sports jersey. When the worker looked more closely, though, he saw there was a body. Police were called to the scene about 6:18 p.m., Roberts said.

  • Roberts said police hadn't removed the body as of about 9:30 p.m. The drain was about eight feet below ground level on Tropicana Avenue just west of the beltway.

Roberts didn't know the man's approximate age. Noting the gunshot wound, he said the man might have been the victim of a homicide.

He said he suspected that the body hadn't been there very long.

Investigators who arrived at the scene spoke to someone who heard gunshots in the area about 6 p.m.

No matter what someone does they don't deserve to be shot and dumped in a storm drain. It shouldn't matter if they are part of a gang or a straight a student. We're all human and no parent should have to hear that their child died when that child has yet to live their life.

NOTHING!.. I do!.. He was a great kid from a good family, and was never a ghetto kid, not that it matters. Like any kid, white, black or purple, he had his issues, but was cleaning up his act, AND doing a good job of it.. He was a good student, devout Catholic, played concert violin, piano and drums. He had a great sense of humor and wonderful personality, a very loving, considerate young man.. But none of that will be reported in the news, will it?

No one knows why or how he came to be in that storm drain, and may never know… But we DO know he had a loving family, a LIFE, a promising future that he was pursuing and it was taken from him. His family will mourn and miss him every day for the rest of their lives. But to you, he’s just a statistic, just one more dead black kid, who in your warped minds, probably ‘deserved it’.. How DARE you judge him, or crack heartless horrible jokes?? He was MURDERED.. I pray none of you ever gets that knock on the door and hear the words his mother was told that night. Try to imagine that moment when her world was ripped apart…And then, go kiss your kids if you have any, she won’t get to kiss her only child, ever again.

Oh boo hoo is Jim having a bad day at the office. Which was it, a paper cut or spilled coffee on his tie?

What would a punk or anyone for that matter be doing down in a storm drain to even find the gun.
And I repeat, Storm Drains are for water only people, not waste, anti-freeze, pestisides, weed killer, DEAD BODIES! This all goes back to Lake Mead ya know. Think about the dead guy the next time you turn on your tap. GROSS!

He could have shot himself and some punk found the gun and ran off with it.

Is it plausible? Yes, but one shouldn't be so quick to judge when the police want to release the minimal amount of information, since this is a brand new case.

BTW...everyone makes more money then a Police Officer including myself. Who knows you could be on my payroll with that salary?
