LV soldier died in Afghanistan

The military says a soldier from Las Vegas died of "non-combat" injuries in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense said Friday that 23-year-old Pfc. Willington M. Rhoads died Wednesday in Bagram of injuries suffered in the unspecified incident, which is under investigation.

  • Rhoads was assigned to the 173rd Brigade Support Battalion (Airborne), in Vicenza, Italy.

    He was the 59th military personnel with ties to Nevada who has died in the nation's wars overseas since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
